Yeah I think Reynolds GL is one and done. Money talks. There's no upside in it for WB to bring him back. If Sony didn't want to bother writing big checks to bring Maguire back as Spidey why would WB pay more money for Reynolds when they can get a younger up and coming actor for less? His star power didn't deliver and now he's just a reminder of failure. It's worse than SR's post release situation. GL didn't even make an impression with the public at large. May as well start over. Most of all if Goyer and Snyder are in charge now I can't see them wanting to use someone else's work as a foundation going forward. They will handle GL their own way. The best bet to see the character on the big screen in the near future is in JL even then it'll be a soft reboot of maybe even a total reinvention of the character to fit into the post MOS world. I watched a PBS show once on Hollywood about the execs in Hollywood- although it was a few years ago, I kind of doubt things have changed much. What it explained was how much easier it was for execs and suits to keep their jobs with 'no's' or keeping things in limbo, rather than greenlighting something--- because the costs and risks are far less with limbo. Once the train starts with a greenlit movie--- there's no turning back, and heads roll if it's a bomb. I'm sure now with the Green Lantern movie trainwreck (even worse that it was 'endorsed' by Geoff Johns, because then WB may feel that they did everything that fans wanted and still got burned).... that keeping things in limbo or keeping things a 'no' is a lot less risky than sinking $250 million into anything. The logic definitely is easy to understand......risk as little as possible, if you want to keep your job. It's amazing that ANY good blockbuster films came out of WB with that rationale, though. That explains Catwoman. I always felt that by the end that film got made for contractual reason more than anything. It looked like a disaster for years even after massive rewrites and Ashley Judd dropping out wasn't a good sign. Not like she was a huge star but I bet she smelled the crap. Denise DiNovi was attached to the film for years and I felt like it was getting made no matter what despite it looking like garbage. It just never made sense to make it with Batman Begins in development.

What always gets me is that it's not even in the 'fun but dumb' category.... it amazes me how many giant budgeted studio films have so many expensive professionals attached to it, but if it doesn't achieve greatness, then it can't even pass the bar of being 'dumb fun' at the very least......

Look at Green Lantern. if they hadn't spent so much money pointlessly it could have come closer to making them a bigger profit. Compared to MOS you really don't see the money put on screen in the best possible way. The all cg costume was just a fucking worthless expense and a prime example of excess. I appreciated the idea but it still end up being terribly executed.
Then there's the story of Jonah Hex. Everything they did hoping to lure in a bigger audience only caused the film to bomb harder. A Hex movie should be fairly cheap to do and a gritty westerd action film may have brought in more people than Wild Wild West 2.

I kept looking at Malkovitch and thinking "you turn down playing the Green Goblin but you'll do this shit?" Loved Hex's appearance on Batman TAS. Something like that would be a great way to tie him to the DCCU if they ever use Ra's or Vandal Savage. Goyer would have to pull the realism stick far enough out of his ass though. Loved the animated Hex short. It was better than the movie which had to feel a little nice for Tom Jane since he wanted the part in the live action film too. He probably lucked out not getting it.

The cg costume ended up being the LEAST offensive thing in the GL movie. Ironic.
Also..... It's funny how Jonah Hex is the 'Punisher' of superhero movies for DC--- BOTH of them should have EASILY been the easiest superhero films to pull off... they're (mostly) just guys with guns! It's not exactly like Donner trying to figure out how to make a man fly in pre-CGI times ..... MANY people have made movies about guys with guns, so how the heck do you screw those up? Oy.

Bale himself confirms he's done as Batman and won't be in Justice League. m.joblo.com/joblo/news/49167 Looks like it will indeed be a new guy as the Bat. Wonder if that Joe guy who tried out for Superman in MOS will try out for Batman?

Man, DC movies are a hot mess right now.
Green Lantern bombed, MOS was good but not great, and who knows what the fuck is going to happen with Batman. Do you guys think the public will easily accept another Batman so quickly after the Nolan flicks? I guess maybe so since Batman has already had almost as many actors as Bond in half the time.

I think they can but they have to do it right. Don't rush it. Don't give it to some hack either. Nolan's made Batman pretty respectable. It can be more comic book without being a stupid popcorn flick. The Arkham games seem to be hitting the right button for a lot of people too. I agree though WB has no clue what they are gonna do. Lets just all agree that its over for Reynolds GL. I can't see them continuing that it any way. We might not see JL before 2020.

It's a shame WB didn't get off their ass and make a Justice league film 20 years ago. It would have been a lot harder on a technical level but it could have been amazing. And they had actors they could go to who were established in the roles. But they had to wait for Marvel to do the hard work and prove it was possible before they got serious about it as far as a shared universe.

I remember going to see GL, thinking, "How bad can it be?"
It was pretty excruciating.
Having Reynolds in a JL movie would start the project with a bad association.

When it was over and I left, I texted Val, "Well, it wasn't good. Wasn't terrible either."
Just such a massive, massive disappointment.

I for one am glad that Bale is not returning as Batman. I like BB, TDK was awesome the best in the series and TDKR was good.. it was a bit of mess to me, so much going on. I liked Bales Bruce, and his Batman was good, but I got tired of hearing him after a while. I still hate the voice, and I'm so over the football/hockey pad costume.
When the time comes and a JL movie does come out, I hope they have someone good to direct it, maybe get someone like Whendon thats good with the ensemble cast but can capture that big screen magic like 80's Speilberg. As for the writers, why dont they just do a collaboration from a few of the comic writers, instead of just one? WB really needs to take their time and get this right. If they screw up JL, they will NEVER recover from this, and the DC fans will never forgive them.

I gave it a shot just like the FF movies but it had even less going for it. Felt like a throwback to the 90s. It was utterly childish and didn't take itself seriously enough. I just don't see how the movie would fit with the MOS universe. Reynolds was either miscast or didn't make an impact in the role so what's the positives of bringing him back? I can't see any. I wanna see Hal Jordan not Van Wilder with a power ring. There was just no excuse for a cash grab movie like this in this day in age. I get making money and selling merch but it seemed like The only purpose behind GL was to sell toys. You can make a fun movie without it being a poorly written farce knockoff of Iron man.

By the end those films wouldn't really mesh with a DCU. You need a batman that can hold his own with over superheroes and Bales is too low key in so many ways. These people should be contemporaries. In their primes. Not half crippled middle aged a batman and a confused rookie Superman. They should be able to stand up to one another when they butt heads and have if be believable.

Reynolds was definitely miscast as GL. I say he would have been a much better Flash, and I really wanted to see Bradley Cooper as GL, I think he could have pulled it off so much better than Ryan.

I mean I didn't think he as god awful...the whole time...but he sure as shit didn't make me buy into him as Jordan. He just seemed to be doing his usual schtick. Of all the people to play DC heroes since Batman Begins he was one of the least convincing. Even Routh and Palicki pulled off Superman and Wonder Woman better.
The movie was just a colossal damn disappointment considering the GL corp coulda have been the closest thing to the DCs Jedi on screen. There was a huge story backdrop to play with

He could've been great. The script and the direction just didn't try. At all. Fell flat. But Reynolds definitely could've been a bad ass Jordan. He just can't play himself all the time.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using proboards Maybe. But there were much better choices out there. Guys who fit the part more. Hal should be a bit more macho and rugged a jet jock instead of a preened metrosexual. Maybe he could have pulled a Keaton but he was hired because they thought he was gonna be the new leading man. He keeps on getting these parts and he keeps on falling flat. Doing the same ol shit. Chris Evans has gotten some equally shitty scripts and spun gold. Tim Story didn't do much more than point he camera but Evans was a great Johnny Storm. He still fit the part. That's when you know you've got strong casting. Mark Strong was in the same movie as Reynolds but kicked his ass performance wise despite Sinestro being written pretty thin. RIPD looks awful. Like a ripoff of multiple things and awful. Might he another did for Reynolds.
