You know, I think Bay would've been better than Snyder.

I don't know about the story or acting but Bay would have directed better action sequences. He knows that stuff

I oddly DO think Snyder has a particular talent- but more as a cinematographer. (Not counting MOS) If you had Singer directing SR 2 ((or the reboot)) with Baird editing, and Snyder as cinematographer to frame or contribute to coming up with shots- could have had the best of all worlds.

Last week, I voted Superman III for fun. Having just seen MOS, I hereby certify that vote.

I love them both for different reasons. I know that by not automatically pitting them against each other and saying if I like one better than the other is fucking heresy around here, but ... suck it. I do what I want.
Superman III is just so goddamn interesting from a filmmaking perspective. It's something that could have only come about in the 1980s and only from the kind of maverick mindset the Salkinds had. Do you think Captain America 3 is going to feature Dave Chappell and not let him and Chris Evans meet until the last 10 minutes?
No one is going to make a movie like Superman III ever again. It's a product of its time, and I'd say it's damn near cult. I'd consider it a cult classic, just under-appreciated in that light.

SIII is obviously a misfire, so why is it so goddamn irresistable when it's on TV or whenever I throw it on the DVD player?

Because the good stuff in III is awesome and the bad stuff provides such a good time because you laugh so much making fun of it. How many jokes have we made over the years? How could any of us say Kent vs Superman isn't cool? One of the best sequences in the series. III is pretty unique among comic book movies ill give it that. Very few go back and forth between such extremes.

S3 is also the most polished and solid looking of all the Reeve films.
The others all have parts that appear rushed, halfbaked and cheap.

I think next to STM it has the most consistently good effects. A few here and there are weak but for the most part III LOOKS good. I still think Supergirl is near the top too. I remember even fewer weak special effects in that. Some of the Argo sets looked thrown together but the flying effects were excellent

The flying in S3 was also great.
That first takeoff when he rescues the guy drowning in his car... Amazing.
And when he takes off to rescue the people on the roof at the chemical plant.
Time has been kind to S3.

I just realised something about S3:
Clark and Jimmy were IN the bus. They SAW. What the chemical plant fire did.

Let's have an American be the next James Bond. Does that make any sense? This was the beginning of the end for MOS. Superman is very American, so you choose a British actor and give him a Batman-esque suit with NO superman Hair (boring). Then you make the movie..and do EXACTLY what has become the problem for modern cinema..you overload the thing with a ton of special effects, explosions, etc. Game over. Also, the movie had no heart, no chemistry with Lois and Clark, and some very dumb ideas including Penis References! Yea! in a superman movie?? The worst was when 'British Steel' unecessarily destroyed Military property to make a political statement..something superman would never do. That was the most awkward moment in the history of superhero movies....EVER! Superman III is actually Superman , mainly because Reeve is in it and the greatest Superman by far. Reeve was up in heaven gigling at how pathetic MOS was and how they keep trying to revive and equal the greatness of Him and the real Superman Movies! Also, I heard Ilya Salkind launched a whole Garbage Can at the screen upon the Movie's end (MOS)....

I'm not going to lie, I got a little distracted at Cavill's hair during the movie. It was all black and curly, just seemed weird to me.

Not really.
A Scot was the definitive Bond, plus we've had a Welshman, an Irishman and even an Ozzie playing the role.

Superman III has two interesting concepts: What if computers took over the world. What if Superman became jealous of Clark and vice versa - and they battled each other?
Neither of which are truly explored.
That being said, Superman III is so much fun - so ridiculous that you just go with it. Reeve looks just about perfect here.

Guess the Kent's dentist didn't have any Kryptonite braces handy, Jimbo. Not really. A Scot was the definitive Bond, plus we've had a Welshman, an Irishman and even an Ozzie playing the role. Eh I don't know. An American actor as Bond would just be too different for me. Unless they were REALLY good. John Gavin had the looks but its just hard to picture him being great in the role. Most of the Bonds have at least been from crown counties right?

That's why I said most. But that project was so messed up and off the mark it just shows why people shouldn't make too many changes when not needed. I don't want Bond to be Americanized to suit my countries tastes. That takes away some of the exotic appeal the character his world and his adventures. That was one of the big problems of the Brosnan era. The only thing about that original filmed version of Casino Royale that I found interesting was Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre.
