MoS is a better movie, but SIII has Reeve in a great performance.
SIII.

MOS isn't just better than SIII, it's better than SII (any version) too. There I said it.

I'd rather watch a Superman film than a Richard Pryor film with a cameo from Superman.

How much screen time did Christopher Reeve get in STM?
Wasn't STM just a Gene Hackman movie with a cameo from Christopher Reeve?

Well he did have a higher billing than Reeve, so all signs point to you being correct. Thank you for pointing that out.

I haven't done the calculations, but wouldn't it be funny if the ratio of Lex+Otis:Reeve screentime in STM was actually bigger than the ratio of Pryor:Reeve screentime in S3.

The story in STM is all Kal El/Clark/Superman. It doesn't matter how much screen time Reeve has. It's not called "Christopher Reeve: The Movie." The character of Kal/Clark/Supes technically shows up in the first five minutes of the actual movie, is throughout almost the entire film and is the last thing we see in it. The character as a whole is the point of the movie.
Richard Pryor is the point of SIII.
That oughta settle that?

if Kevin, UF, Enrique, Gandy, OllyH, etc came over to mine, I'd put SIII on - as its hilarious when you're drunk. I think we'd derive more entertainment from it.

MOS is a better made movie but I find SIII to be more enjoyable to watch. Reeve got to turn his dual role into a triple and despite the extra workload he pulled it off better than Cavills one often flat performance. Reeve is just more interesting to watch almost every time he's on screen. I found the psychological aspects of Clark vs Evil Superman to be way more interesting than the sometimes faux depth MOS tried its hand at. Superman sees Kent as his bothersome weaker side but in the end its the humanity of Clark Kent that prevails. Its not as flashy as the battles in MOS but its better structured, better paced, and unlike MOS it doesn't do as much spelling out of all of this kind stuff for a supposedly dumb audience.
Reeve and O'Toole had better chemistry than Cavill and Adams and O'Toole was just a much better fit for her character. Dead on casting. III is a dumber cashgrab of a movie most of the times but its much more fun to watch than the often joyless often chore like MOS.

I can actually enjoy SIII quite a bit, Pryor IS funny, Lorelei's tits ARE fantastic, and Reeve is as always brilliant. But as a Superman film its naff, so yeah, for me Man of Steel is more fun to watch than Pryor The Movie.

wait, what?
i thought this was another "needlessly redundant man of steel thread" done for giggles?
we're actually putting SIII and MOS in the same context? wha...?
i could see when it was SIII vs SR, because those were parallel alternative sequels.
man of steel mops the floor with the salkind sequels.

Not to everyone. Reeve and the theme are in the sequels. That's all some people here want in a Superman movie.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using proboards yeah, i have one foot in that camp. ill watch the sequels BECAUSE of reeve. but MOS is a BEAST. and im looking back at other versions these days- trying to reacquaint myself. starting with george reeves. just to keep context.

If I pick S3, will I be accused of Reeve favoritism?

And if one chose Batman Forever over The Dark Knight Rises, they just happen to favor bat nipples more.

Or neon. Or ridiculous over the top acting from pretty much every single actor in the movie except Kilmer and Gough.
To each their own, sure, but if you like Van Halen's "Tattoo" more than "Poundcake," ehhh...something's probably up.

I'd rather watch the Supes movie that's dopey and throwaway than the one that's joyless and overbearing.
I mean... ya know... if that's ok.

Personally, I want the best possible adaptation of the Superman comics I grew up enjoying--- story, direction, editing, casting. If it has a different interpretation, fine.... There's never anything perfect, so it depends on how many elements come through or seem stronger than the other at the end (Prime Example: X-men:First Class changed a lot of things unnecessarily, but what resulted was so good, I was fine with the changes). Cavill has a certain physical presence that feels dead on as Superman. At the same time, Routh has a specific presence that screams 'good guy superhero' as well. Cavill has less rough edges actingwise than Routh, but I'm (suprisingly) happy with either in the role.
MOS as a movie.... it's just not CRAFTED well imo. There are some great kickarse scenes, and I love the art direction, but I'm fine if it doesn't have Reeve nor the Donnerverse, but on its own terms- I honestly don't feel its well executed in a number of places and think even "Smallville" is a bit more successful, and I'm not crazy about how much that one really diverges from the source material. I don't care for being characterized as having bad judgement if I don't love this movie, I'd like to think everyone could just realize that people can have different reactions to a movie, and agree to disagree.
