For your information, I have a good friend at work who absolutely jizzes all over anything Avengers/Iron Man/Marvel related. When Avengers came out, the next morning after he saw it at the midnight screening he said, "out of a 10, this movie is a 15!" I mean he is a nut for those movies. Even he said one time when we were talking about comic book movies that he actually loves the character of Tony Stark in the Iron Man movies because its just RDJ acting like RDJ, only he thinks he is a bad ass....whereas I am not as impressed by it. Aaaand I have no clue what this has to do with the conversation. Your friend likes Iron Man but you don't? Whoopdeedoo. Good for him. What he said doesn't change anything I said. You aren't impressed? Yeah you already told me that, champ. Moving on... Deal with it? Oooh aren't you butch. Whatever. I'm trying to deal with how hilarious what you said was. If it rubs you the wrong way why not just say that in the first place instead of some bullshit about how he's playing himself and not Tony Stark even though you have no idea what that means? Sweet tap dancing Christ, Dookie.

Sweet tap dancing Christ, Dookie. What does it have to do with anything? hecko McFly! Someone who is actually a Marvel/Avengers fan that I know also thinks like me that Tony Stark is just RDJ being RDJ. I'd say that is pretty relevant to our conversation. I have already made myself clear that I feel that its just RDJ acting like himself. If that also means he is acting like Stark, then I guess it does. Doesn't mean I have to like the character. You also stated earlier that RDJ plays him as far more of a wise-ass and comedic, whereas the Stark in the comics was more of straight shooter and more serious. Why couldn't have played him a bit more serious like that? I may have enjoyed that more. He played him SO MUCH like himself, that even if he nailed every aspect of the character except that one facet, it proves he tried to damned hard (or he was directed to do so) to play himself. To me, the best acting performances are people who transform themselves at least somewhat. At least change SOMETHING about yourself for a role be it physically, but especially emotionally. Heck, I haven't even brought up the fact that he even dresses like he does in real life in the Iron Man movies with the same damn hair cut and goatee. Maybe that is what Stark looks like too. But who cares....the whole thing is just too straight up RDJ being himself for me. And when he becomes Iron Man, he doesn't have an opportunity to shine as an actor in the suit due to what the costume is, so his ONLY chance to shine is as Stark in street clothes.

We're talking about you not him. What he knows doesn't mean jack as far as what you know unless you two share two halves of half a brain or something. Downey did play Stark as serious at times. Sorry you missed it complaining. Downey also changed himself physically. He put on a lot of muscle in the first movie. Sorry you missed that whining. I've watched a lot of Downey too and he wasn't always just being silly or playing himself. Sometimes he got damn serious. Sounds like you want him to play Tony Stark...by NOT PLAYING Tony Stark. At a certain point if you change it too much that's not even the character anymore and that's a waste of time. Yes Tony DID HAVE a goatee before Downey started playing him. As for that other chicken scratch you've already told me that. Like I said you should have just said that in the first place. It's ok Dookie. You still get the Star Wars kid light saber award.

As for that other chicken scratch you've already told me that. Like I said you should have just said that in the first place. It's ok Dookie. You still get the Star Wars kid light saber award. Well, as hard as I have been on him in this thread, in the first Iron Man....yeah I can see what you are saying to a point. Again, that movie was actually decent. I mean I enjoyed it when I saw it. Have no desire to see it again and it was fun for what it was. But then that was it. Iron Man 3 was nothing but him spouting one liner after one liner. It was like the writer/director thought the movie was one big joke. Didn't take itself seriously at all. That was the prevalent thought that kept running through my mind as I was watching that movie. The movie where I REALLY thought it was just him being himself was Avengers actually. At one point I recall him wearing a Black Sabbath t-shirt and just talking like himself. I dunno, it just took me out of the moment. About my friend, not sure how you aren't getting that I am using him as an example to show you I am not the only one to thinks that, and in fact its the opinion of someone who is also a fan. Afterall, you are acting like I am some idiot because I don't know anything about Stark other than what the movies show.

Didn't say you're an idiot. Just said you should have said what you really meant instead of beating around the bush by saying Downey was just playing himself and not Tony Stark when you weren't even up on the character. Not your cup of tea? Just say so. Could have saved a lot of time.

Entertainment Weekly is pushing Ryan Gosling.
I like Ryan Gosling and think he's a pretty good actor. I loved Drive.
He'd have to bulk up obviously.

I'm thinking Michael Cera
but they'll probably give it to Ryan Reynolds since he seemingly has the best agent in the world.

Sad thing is if this was a few years ago you'd probably be right! heck you're still probably right. He won't be Batman but Reynolds agent works wonders with getting the guy work he's totally wrong for.

Yeah, it's kinda like when they announced Robert Downey Jr for Iron Man.
Totally not what I was thinking, but when they announced it, I was kinda like, "Ok. Yeah. I can see that." Within minutes I was actually stoked.

The entire creative team behind MOS is behind the sequel? Is that right?
Well, at least we know what to expect.

I dont see why people are worried. Alien vs Predator was great. Freddy vs Jason was a classic. Oh wait.....

Maybe if Nolan decides to actively participate more and make sure his name doesn't just get slapped on a mediocre product I might have some hope. If he focuses Snyder I will have more hope. If they get someone to rewrite Goyer I might even get excited. As it is this isn't the great Superman Batman movie I've always wanted just another Superhero movie cash in from mediocre talents. That could change but if MOS is any indication...meh.

Gosling.
Shit.
Yeah.
That's brilliant. That's beyond brilliant. It would be the highest grossing comic book movie ever.
Why?
Women.
Women fucking adore Gosling.
You get that Titanic type crowd, and goddamn...

Yeah, but have you ever heard Gosling speak? His actual voice? He's going to have to do the Bale voice to sound remotely intimidating.

Correct. These movies, the flicks we all love, STRUGGLE to get the female audience in, the non-nerds, the standard chicks who love Sex and the City and all that shit.
Good point about his voice, eccentric. He does kinda sound like an American Beckham.

Did Craig have any female fans before Bond? the guy isn't exactly good looking. If it was Gosling I'd rather he disguise his voice with a helium balloon than imitate Bale's voice

Cool thing about Craig is even though he appeals to women men like him too. He's not one of those guys that ladies swoon over that guys hate. He's pretty cool. You'd think Hollywood would go for more guys like that to make more money.

Does Gosling do movies like this though?
He seems to be doing lots of indiecool movies at the moment like Drive and The Place Beyond The Pines. Would this be 'beneath him'?
