Bond still has something, a quality I haven't seen from Cavill at all. Craig was definitely the right choice. He had a masculinity and magnetism Cavill seems void of.

You just can't stand the fact that Daniel Craig made a huge splash and Cavill landed with a thud. Doesn't bother me. Craig's not a particularly great actor. He was good as Bond, but i've not exactly been taken aback by anything else he's done. You just can't accept any valid criticisms of Craig Anyway this is all a bit pathetic, happy wanking over......each other.

If Craig's not a great actor what's that say about Cavill? Tearing Craig down to prop Cavill up? That's rich. Cavill must be one of those mannequins that can't stand on his own. People have had plenty of things to say about Craig good and bad. Difference is Craig rose to the occasion despite some major criticism when he got the role.

I'm glad it worked out how it did.
Craig is a good fit for bond, and he was there right after some pretty awful brosnan films. That, and his qualities, and the more appropriate tone made casino royale very welcome and makes for a very good 2nd run bond series.
Cavill was born to play superman, and MoS set up a good foundation for WBs next cinematic series. Its a win win.

Interesting, Kris.
Exactly what Craig criticisms have I been unable to take?
Might I ask.

I'd have looked forward to Bale's Batman in a new caper, but a brand new take doesn't really excite me Hmm. That's surprising to me russ, (and I promise I'm not being flippant w/you) but you seemed very unimpressed with TDK and TDKR, and while you have issues w/ MoS you recently rated it higher than TDK/TDKR - which would have made me think you'd welcome a batman set in MoS universe.

I'm not saying Cavill's a great actor so it's irrelevant. Simply that Craig isn't exactly a master of the art of acting. Enrique, how about that Craig isn't one of the most skilled actors

Who ever said he was?
All I've ever said is that he's a great Bond and made a better impression in his first outing as Bond than Cavill did as Superman.
The only other reason i ever mentioned him in this specific board is to counterpoint the idea that I'm not open to a new actor as Superman since I think Craig has equalled Connery (my favorite Bond AND actor) and I believe somebody can eventually equal/surpass Reeve/Donnerverse.
It's happened with Bond, but not with Superman.
(For the record, this is an honest attempt to lure you back to an intelligent exchange of ideas. The ball's in your court...)

Cavill did a superb job as superman.
While MoS has its share of haters, critics, etc etc, but almost universally, even for folks who had criticisms of MoS, have agreed that cavill elevated the material he had.
He IS superman. For a generation.

Routh was too at one point...
And we all know how that turned out...

I think Routh could have done well with the MoS material. Like Reeve and Cavill, he's got that natural charm that's vital to the role. I also think that really likable quality wouldn't work well for Cavill as Bond. Bond needs to have a cold quality, just the vibe of an outright bastard if he needs to be. MoS is the only thing I've seen Cavill do, so I have no idea if he can be cold like Dalton (my favorite) or Craig (the best.)

Enrique, how about that Craig isn't one of the most skilled actors Funny since you cared enough to chime in. Craig's performance seems to get higher praise across the board. He had the better material but he was also probably the better talent. Craig's instantly right up there amongst the best bonds. I'm not sure anyone can legitimately say that about Cavill and Superman yet. If someone had cared maybe Cavill would have been passed over for someone who could have elevated the weak material. George Reeves always made his material better and he was on a so called cheap kiddie show.

For a generation. I don't really agree with that. He was ok but I didn't see him elevate the material. Someone like Reeve could take a weakly written Superman movie and make it more watchable by his sheer presence. And I feel for this generation.

If the general public likes Cavill, then I'm certainly not hearing, seeing or reading any buzz about him.
When Casino Royale came out, Craig was on magazine covers, (aimed at men AND women), for what seemed like months afterwards. They say you've crossed over when "men want to be you, women want you" and you can make a strong, probably airtight, case that Craig has certainly achieved that.
With Cavill?
I'm just not hearing it. At best, people "liked" Cavill, but few seem passionate about him.

I know, its hard to explain. Despite my Marvel appreciation I've only bothered to see Avengers on the big screen, and despite my disappointments with TDK films, I'd be interested in a 4th. And I have zero feeling for MoS but rate it higher as a film than TDK but would rather see Bale return. I'm a mess of contradictions.

I still don't get that casting. Affleck was good, but I don't know who he was playing. He looks nothing like George Reeves.

ben affleck is batman? wha?
have i been asleep for 2 months?
anyway:
ordinarily im rock-ribbed against a "name actor" playing a superhero.
robert downey jr as tony starkhimself changed my view of that.
personally, i would NEVER have even thought of it- and i had pined away for timothy olyphant getting that gig. (unrealistic i know).
