I got the Walmart preorder hopefully I get it tomorrow or Tuesday. I've been trying to download the digital copy on my iPad vudu app but it just shows the download circle animation and nothing else.. Won't download at all. Pisses me off, I wanted to watch it.

I picked up my copy a few days ago. I've watched all the special features but haven't found the time to watch the film yet. I hope to this weekend.
As has been mentioned the special features aren't particularly good but do offer hope that a lot more was done practically than one might have originally thought. Having said that, in a lot of instances this was just to created a performance which the digital artists could then imitate.
There's a few funny shots of Cavill striking a flying pose with his feet planted firmly on the ground only to then cut to a CGI Superman. He rarely had to actually take off the ground.

I watched it tonight online. The Walmart pre-order allowed me to watch it via the Vudu streaming service (owned by Walmart) a day before the disc release. Hopefully the disc will be in the mail so I can see it on the HDTV. For some reason, streaming to my Apple TV via my MacBook Pro has sucked balls since Apple released an update for the ATV a month or so ago.

Possible price glitch at Wal-Mart stores today, The big "S" tin set is only $24.99, it's listed online for $39.99. I decided to pick it up over going to target, I'd love the extra special features but I was able to sell the 3D disc on Ebay for 14.99! and The UV code to a buddy for 5! So I basically got the set for $5 plus the cost of tax!

Awesome guys- kev, I want to get that edition, and the one with the superman/zod figurines.
Funny anecdote:
Went to BESTBUY after work and got the fuck all 3D/bluray/dvd/yadayada edition. Its bestbuy so I'm obviously wandering around lusting after tvs and cd box sets and I hear this kid, an employee, and he's taking every oppurtunity to direct customers to the man of steel blu ray. Its all "...and that's a great choice for ear-buds ma'am...have you seen the new superman? ....can I help you with that playstation whatevers ? And have you seen the new superman bluray is available today?" I was grinning, glad to hear it. I have my bluray in my hands and deciding how many christmas presents I'm going to get while I'm here and this kid (19 if he's a day) asks if I need anything, and I just hold up the blu and he grins ear to ear and says "good choice sir!" Still getting used to being "sir" but very gratified to see the enthusiasm. On my way to check out, a couple- had to be 50s-ish (looked like bikers) were milling about and happened upon one of the MoS displays and were floored- the dude said "shit! Its out on bluray!" And grabbed the thing and headed for the checkout evidently forgetting what he had been in there for in the first place.
Ordered an extra large of our fave pizza from my hometown, watched the movie and "for the lightwieght fans" features. Damn good. Tomorow I dive into the in-the-movie-doc.
Bring on worlds finest!

Picked up the 3-D version as well, although I don't have a 3-D TV yet. Hopefully, that will change soon after the wedding. One complaint, I HATE how the four discs (3-D, 2 regular Blu's, DVD) are all stacked on top of each other in the case. This is the first time I have ever bought a 3-D Blu and I wonder if they all come that way?
Anyhow, loved the features, especially the in the movie "Making Of" Very well done and it solidified for me that Snyder was/is the best man for the job. You might not like his films, and I don't like the majority of them, but he certainly knows what he's doing.
I am also now head over heels in love with Amy Adams. Seeing her talk about her approach to Lois with Cavill next to her and being able to see her dancing in the interrogation room scene sealed the deal for me. My personal favorite Lois by far.
Also, can't believe Shannon's armor was all CGI. What an incredible job, I would have never known. Shannon's humor also comes through in a big way during the Making Of. Nice to see someone who is able to have so much fun, while still taking his craft seriously.

I just can't get over how "bro" he is. He's just so goddamn "bro."
The Krypton documentary was awesome, very clever. The "feature" of the movie with the behind the scenes stuff that came up was pretty cool but mostly fluff. I'd much rather get the option to watch the stuff outside of the movie. It's an extra. I don't want to have to fast forward through the movie to get to the next goodie. Ah well. I'm watching the other extras that are on the main disc now.
The 75th anniversary cartoon was fucking incredible. I had waited to watch it and I'm glad I did. I gotta say, I liked the George Reeves moment the most. I dunno why. The whole damn thing was SO awesome. I loved it.
I'll be watching the movie tonight with that shit cranked the fuck UP, bro!

ANECDOTE:
guy i work with a few days a week rented it last night. he's not a "NERD" as such, but likes sci-fi and soon when its good. loved original star wars/the prequels are dumb- likes abrams trek but its a bit silly, bayformers is retarded. thats where he's at.
so he comes in and says overall he'd give it a B/B+. LOVED the krypton parts- especially crowe as Jor. did NOT like the non-linear smallville/clarks journey act. wanted that chronological. liked the rest of the cast. amy adams is cute. will watch it again and looking forward to the sequel, though he admits he doesnt like affleck so itll be a big hurdle.
last night i watched the movie, the basic features, then watched the movie again. kids gave up and went to bed about midnight, marie skipped the second screening and is probably ready for divorce.

There's a difference between not liking his movies and him not knowing what he's doing as a director. There's no doubt in my mind he was the correct choice for this version of Superman. Whether or not you personally liked it is another discussion.

exactly KRIS, im still getting my arms around david lynch material (thanks to maverick and belloq) but just because he's not my go-to fave for all things doesnt mean i dont respect/admire him.
man of steel is a best of a movie, and unapologetic. i think is kind of cool that a "mainstream/square/dull/boring" character is the root of the hand wringing and polarizing and destined for cult status film that some of us enjoy and some of them cant chortle enough over.

Yeah, that was a fun extra. Inspiring. Gads, Cavill got huuuge.
I hope we get a commentary and deleted scene section someday in a doubledipped future.
I watched the movie finally. I loved it. It's great but it's not really great, and I'll take that for now. The bluray transfer is gorgeous, the colors on the suit are incredible (it practically shines) and the sound is just window shaking. I can't wait to see what's next.

I like it more each time I see it. Especially the music. The first flight scene when it's on loud is fantastic.

I think it's just so unusual for an actor to do it since it went by the wayside after Schwarzenegger's and Stallone's prime periods.

Completely went through both the feature and the 'video extras during the movie' feature.
Surprisingly, I like the movie much better--- conditionally.
The context is that I saw the movie twice on the BIG screen- then went straight into discussion endlessly over the merits of the film & its flaws, over and over and over and over and over and over on the forum...... So- the bits that most offended I was definitely more numb to and not as bothered by- but that's more due to checking out the forum over and over talking about the same bits. Because of that, just kind of got used to the idea.
First, more on the bonus disc: As mentioned before, the blu ray had a lot of effort put into it- moreso than most blurays (although it's definitely missing the Selutron cut or extra Donner deleted scenes for the bonus disc)---
In watching the behind-the-scenes, Amy Adams comes off as incredibly funny and charming (though still horribly miscast still imo as Lois: her being tough comes off as too soft)--- and with all the practical shooting- I can imagine how much fun it must have been for actors on the set to make--- but it also made me think of how much easier it must have been for Snyder versus Donner not having to battle over the budget daily- but, I digress... (Ironic how Cavill and Adams seem to get along great, versus how we know Kidder and Reeve were at each others' throats daily--- though the chemistry for MOS seems that both Lois and Superman seem like gentle spirits, whereas in STM the chemistry comes from the fact that they're polar opposites on the surface).... though the idea of having the actors having to stand in front of a white stage made them look at times more uncomfortable than not (looks nice, but I get the feeling that they might have offered up more if they didn't have to stand on stage, but were allowed chairs to sit down on- minor quibble). Still--- really dug the extra mile they took to edit the side by side before/after/commentary bits with the actual movie.
In any case- the way that the bts & video commentary was spliced together should be model for future blu rays. VERY nice.
Though--- NO FREAKING TRAILERS FOR MOS! Bah! Humbug! It was one of Snyder's best pieces of work for MOS. Sad that it wasn't included. Also- would have been nice to have had the Comicon panel as well.... oh well....
Second- the actual film:
#1: The colors don't look nearly as desaturated as they did on the big screen, so I forgive that- and the shakicam wasn't TOO bad- but in viewing the behind the scenes footage (particularly the stuff with the battle in Smallville)- the practical looked so beautiful with the videocamera that you can't help but think that they ruined a much nicer picture by deciding on shakicam.
#2: Yeah, there is a lot of areas where I thought the drama was stilted or there were just some REALLY idiotic choices (Jonathan dies to save Clark's secret.... but moreso for the damn dog. The dog was even more important than Clark's secret, apparently. And I'm still sick to my stomach whenever Jenny Olsen appears onscreen)--- but, this time around- I already knew the parts that were disappointing to me as a fan- so, on a level of turning off the brain and just enjoying "Flash Gordon", "Dune", and even "Daredevil" for what it does have to offer- it is a lot of fun.
The problem I found was (in part) knowing how good a Superman movie CAN be with the Donner history and some great visuals that opened one's eye up to how GREAT a new interpretation can be- but also if it were going to be realistic, then movies like Batman Begins and Dark Knight also make for a bad comparison to MOS.
Anyhow- I'm suprised I enjoyed it a lot more for what it was/is. I think it is kind of a 'cult' film in that the visuals are dynamic and it's an edgy interpretation (and sloppy with some big gaps at times)- but -oddly, I may end up rewatching Snyder's MOS (with its giant story flaws and some really bad choices) more often over Andrew Stanton's John Carter movie- which I thought was well done, but visually unspectacular. Pretty pictures can go a long way.....

Walmart pre-order was pointless. I still don't have it. When did you sign up for it? If you signed up for it and put in your address after Nov. 4th, you wouldn't be receiving it on the 12th.

Trailers don't seem to happen anymore. The Super 8 trailer isn't on the blu ray and that's one of the best trailers of recent time.
