It’s almost like a line of demarcation. It’s at that exact moment he went from writing the best comics of the era to writing pure trash. Ultimatum was awful. A lot of his work seemed to become more negative and pessimistic. I really do think that loss affected his world view and how that influenced his writing. He had to leave a lot of tv gigs and when he came back to tv he just wasn’t the same man. Like his heart wasn’t in it. I can’t blame him. Losing a child that young has to be a real mind job so I feel for him. My dad never got over my older brother dying. He didn’t lose his marbles or anything but I could tell. Man, feel for you & your family Metallo- My stepfather died, but he wasn't young so that made it somewhat easier to bear.... but - I can't (and don't really want to) imagine a sibling or a child dying in the family. In his convention tours, he seems like he's a great showman full of joy for his job- but I had no idea about this part of his life. Again, can't imagine....

Batman’s suit in Titans? Looks like a work in progress. Very similar style to the Arkham game suits. I’m guessing we won’t see much of Batman and maybe it’ll be in shadow, from a distance, or from behind like it was in the birds of prey tv show.

With 10 movies, you'd think they'd recycle an old one....

That’s what they did with Birds of Prey. They just repainted Batman & Robin costumes since the show was clearly influenced by the movies the same way Smallvilles style was influenced by the Reeve films. But I get making new suits for Titans. They went their world to be its own thing with its own style and take not connected to the DCEU or Nolan. This new batsuit if it’s real looks like something that could exist in the same world as their Robin suit.

It seems a little odd without Wonder Girl, Speedy, and Kid Flash.... I sort of understand why they don't include them as two of them are represented in Arrow and Flash- but then again, the WB strategy seems so all over the map, why not have another version of them in this one as well?

They’re going with the new era Titans from Worfman and Perez as well as the 03 Titans cartoon as their inspiration since that’s what more people are familiar with. Yeah those three were on that team too but they were old holdovers whereas Grayson at least got reinvented as Nightwing. They probably find the lineup they have more interesting in the modern era. Also trying to get diversity appeal so we get goth girl raven black starfire etc. kid flash and speedy don’t really bring anything that Robin doesn’t in that area.
The big absence right now in this lineup is Cyborg.

Still, at least we didn't see Beetle 2.0 (which I never cared for) in the team. And Minka Kelley looks great as "Dove", though she might have made an even better Wonder girl!

The entire concept of this series being rethought would have been nice. I either would have gone with the classic lineup or the early 80s lineup with a more adventurous tone instead of the television equivalent of prostate cancer.

I don't think it's a total loss quite yet...

I’ll check it out eventually but it seems like they really dropped the ball. Then again reviews have been decent. Is that because expectations were so low though?

Good reviews help, particularly in a time when there are so many superhero things out that I can't even catch up anymore... Like I said, though- I do like the guy they chose for Robin & Dove. I'm still extremely wary about Starfire from the trailer & photos, though...

So.... is that the same actor for Beast Boy as in Titans? hm...

Yeah. I believe this is from the Titans episode where they guest star. Robot man looks ok. It’s accurate if a bit of a cartoony translation. Negative man looks great imo.

My eyes fell on Rita, actually- The doom patrol looks great. I hope that Titans turns out to be a great surprise. And, if it works out.... hopefully they'll add their version of Speedy/ Kid Flash/ Wonder Girl. It just feels weird without them.

I think we might eventually see them but considering some of them have counterparts in the Arrowverse Berlanti might hold off for a while. They’ve kind of limited what they can do with other Titans because in this universe this is the first incarnation of the team. I think. I don’t think there was a previous team.

I like the tone they are going for. The designs, costumes, and make up work for this show only work with something off beat, quirky, and tongue in cheek.
Was wondering how they’d pull off Cyborg. I guess they’re going to keep him in a track suit or sweat shirt hoodie and sweat pants most of the time like his first appearances in the super powers cartoon and the justice league movie. Still not sure he is really doable on a tv show budget. Parts could be done with costumes and alliances but other parts would have to be cgi. The facial appliance looks exactly like what it is instead of an actual replacement for part of his head. Maybe if they shot him in a certain way it wouldn’t be so obvious. That’s what Cameron tried to do with Arnold in the Terminator movies.

That’s what Cameron tried to do with Arnold in the Terminator movies. I don't know if Grant Morrison is available with his working on the "Happy!" tv show, but would be great if they're bringing him in any capacity. I'm hoping that the showrunner for this has the same level of skill as the showrunner of "Legion" and "Fargo"- While both are quirky they also have a layer of depth to the show. This could either be genius or incredibly silly.... or (the odds generally seem)- somewhere in the middle. On the plus side, Netflix's Marvel tv shows have kind of lowered the bar (at least half of them). Going 'dark and gritty and cheap' could be fine if you have a great showrunner. People forget that 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and "Angel" both had that- but great writing and a sense of humor. Anyhow- my only worry if it's a Berlianti produced show is that it turns out 'ok' or exactly the same as the other shows....

Berlanti is really nothing but a name and maybe some input on these shows. He’s not in charge of them. He’s a producer on a lot of the DC streaming shows but Titans is nothing like the CWs Arrowverse shows. It’s not only darker but stylistically it’s different. The style and quality of these shows is going to be down to others. Probably Johns and Goldsman more than Berlanti.
In a lot of ways the Netflix shows have raised the bar. The good ones anyway. Daredevil is dark but it was also really good. Maybe the most praised superhero show ever. If the DC streaming shows all go dark they’re going to be compared to the best of the marvel Netflix shows. Just going dark doesn’t guarantee quality but it seems like some people in Hollywood think that.
I think the DC streaming shows are going for a smaller more niche audience because they can sell these shows directly to them. They want that segment of the DC fandom that loved Snyder’s gritty take or Nolan’s dark realism. They aren’t enough to sustain a mainstream network show or a big budget DC movie universe which is going for a broader audience but they might be able to sustain a streaming series because they’ve cut out the middle men and so much of the cost. Tv audiences are also smaller than what these big budget films require anyway. They can live off a couple million regular viewers every week in this era but film studios want a lot more people than that to come out to the theater for a film.

www.darkhorizons.com/swamp-thing-series-shuts-down-amid-turmoil/Wow. That’s out of nowhere even though I’m not surprised. I didn’t think many people were subscribing. I said before the whole model was flawed. The older stuff isn’t much of draw for long time hardcore fans since a lot of them probably already own most of it. I own most of the dc movies and shows on dvd or Blu-ray. The new stuff would be the only reason for me to subscribe. Swamp thing was the new show I wanted to see most. Makes more sense for it to be part of a WB streaming service. Makes me respect the Arrowverse even more. If this is the end of the DCU as a separate service it looks like the Arrowverse has been the only large scale DC screen project of the last few years that’s been consistently successful from the start.

They’re really trying to make people think everything’s ok. Reminds me a lot of the Durock series. Hope someone on the internet puts that shows theme over this.

Sounds like they really were trying the same model as what Disney/ Marvel Studios is doing with their superhero miniseries & their streaming channel..... but without a strong leader like Feige holding the quality all together--- yeah, as you mentioned, I can't see enough people subscribing to it...

The difference is WB tried a DC exclusive service. Disney is offering everything on their service AND at a competitive price. It’s cheaper than Netflix is now. WB is also doing their own service and I don’t think a lot of DC fans are going to pay for that too. Makes more sense to do what Disney is doing and put everything that’s appropriate under one banner. Fold DC universe into the Warner streaming service somehow. CBS all access is had the same problem of not enough content at launch. They’ve been adding more but it’s probably caused them to take a loss for a while.

Seems like WB/DC really is a bit of a chaotic mess all over the place. DC comics sadly is cancelling a number of its print projects- The movies are up/down arbitrarily.... The Berlianti tv shows seem to be the only consistently strong spot- And streaming? Cutting the show off even before the end seems pretty crazy- even Netflix didn't do that with some of their really awful Marvel shows.
