I ended up buying Titans Season 3, but still have yet to get through it.... I agree, the mind-numbing missed opportunities for great drama with how they blew through Jason Todd's 'death' in the very beginning pretty much stopped me cold. It's a pity that Geoff Johns wasn't the showrunner/top dog like how he was for the (mostly) excellent Stargirl series.

Visually, I did feel Titans hit it out of the park in the way the Marvel Netflix shows mainly did not. (outside of Daredevil)
I only watched the first season of Doom Patrol, never made it to the second season, but heard good things.

4 seasons isn't bad if it's solid enough. I don't know if we'll get a Titans revamp, but there were good things in it that made it worthwhile enough for me- and felt very Wolfman/Perez Titans-y.... but, who knows how good and far the new DC movie/tv universe will be? Maybe they can do another Titans show that gets it all right. Would be great if they can....

DC “Lanterns,” “Potter” Series Go To HBO

In a move that seemed inevitable, the rather fuzzy line between originals premiering on HBO and those on Max is about to collapse.

HBO and Max content CEO Casey Bloys is reportedly set to move most of Max’s big-budget, tentpole Warner Bros.-produced IP titles under the HBO branding.

As a result, titles like the “Harry Potter” TV series, the “IT” prequel series “Welcome to Derry,” and the just officially greenlit Green Lantern series “Lanterns” will now be HBO originals.

“Lanterns” also scored a straight-to-series order of eight episodes today with Chris Mundy (“True Detective: Night Country,” “Ozark”) serving as showrunner while Damon Lindelof and Tom King are co-writing and all will executive produce.

The shift marks a change from the previous arrangement which had series based on Warner Bros. IP labelled as Max originals. Bloys explains why they changed:

“We felt like we had to delineate between an HBO show and a Max show. The idea of using Warner Bros. IP as a delineation for Max felt right. At least that gives you a clear lane. But as we started producing those shows, we were using the same methods, the same kind of thinking, as how we would approach HBO shows. In a lot of cases, the same talent that has worked on HBO shows.

What we ended up with is shows at this scope and scale that look great, and great narratives and talent we’ve worked with. The idea of the delineation kind of started to feel unnecessary. Like, why are we doing this? Let’s just call them what they are: HBO shows.”

The change won’t come into effect until 2025 as international licensing requirements means upcoming TV series like “The Penguin” and “Dune: Prophecy” will both still fall under the Max originals banner when they premiere later this year.

That’s not to say Max Originals won’t still be happening. The Max shows of a more episodic nature and/or developed more in the broadcast/traditional TV vein, such as John Wells’ medical drama “The Pitt” and J.J. Abrams’ crime thriller “Duster,” will remain Max shows.

Budgets are also an issue – any series around the $15 million per episode threshold or higher would clearly be an HBO title. All shows will still stream on Max anyway.

Max Scraps “Batman: Arkham Asylum” Series

The proposed TV series “Arkham Asylum,” a show set within the walls of Gotham City’s infamous facility for the criminally insane from the Batman franchise, is dead at Max.

Back in late 2022 came the news that Antonio Campos had come onboard to serve as writer and showrunner of the series, the third writer brought onto the DC project since it was originally announced in July 2020 with a series commitment.

Variety is now reporting that Campos’ version will not proceed. They add that it’s still possible a new project with the setting could be developed in the future.

It ends a long road for the series which was originally meant to be focused on the Gotham P.D. of the Matt Reeves-directed Robert Pattinson-led “The Batman” universe.

Terrence Winter was attached to write and executive produce, but he left the project due to creative differences. “Giri/Haji” creator Joe Barton was then brought in to write, but parted ways as well before Campos boarded around which time Reeves indicated the show had evolved into an Arkham Asylum series.

Last year, DC Studios chief James Gunn suggested the series would be set within the new DCU rather than the Elseworlds universe of Reeves’ “Batman”.

Reeves’ “The Batman” universe is getting its own series with “The Penguin” which is set to launch in September.

Saw the pilot- and suprised how good it was, considering how disappointed I was with Matt Reeves' Batman movie. Hopefully the rest of the miniseries holds up...

Up to episode 3- so far, extremely solid. I was hoping that "Gotham" would have been like this, rather than being somewhat campy and a little too odd for me to engage in. Strange that I actually like this much better than Matt Reeve's Batman movie.

Penguin and Agatha both seem to be doing very well as far as streaming numbers. That’s good. People are still into a good mystery and or thriller if it’s worth it. Both have that going for them as well as weekly episode drops instead of all at once. It helps build interest by doing that way.

I just wish that in both DC and Marvel's cases that they were more on top of quality control when they had a deluge of superhero-adjacent tv shows--- as they could have probably had a better reputation (and better numbers) all around for producing quality superhero-ish shows, rather than it be a hit=or=miss probability given the amount of mediocrity allowed to be put out there from both.
