I don't think Luthor's wealth is something that needs to be explained. Even though he isn't his comic book self in the Donner films (or SIV for that matter), he's certainly a man of great resources with his hideouts, vehicles, and laboratories. He also bought all the property in California under "Lex Luthor Incorporated."

I'm not sure it HAS to be explained either...but you know darn well a TON of people would complain and call it a plot hole...yet ANOTHER plothole in SR.
I think a QUICK explanation would be a good idea.

Yeah that opening scene didn't work for me in SR... too dark and gloomy... but I guess the same could be said about the rest of the film!
Of course playing devil's advocate I could say that STM began with a 'dark' scene with the villians...
They shoulda just played up the corporate untouchable Lex ala Carmin Falcone in BB.. a Lex that had tons of connections and revenue streams...
The wealth could have been explained easier via his characterization while moving the film along rather than a boring out of place expository opening.

Do people really dislike the scene where Superman listens to Lois and Richard talking?
Has NO ONE here ever done something along those lines?
Screw it, I think it's a fantastic scene. He forgets where he's from and who he is and truly becomes a hopeless, sad HUMAN BEING in this scene. It's when he flies off that he remembers why he's there. Not for himself. For the world.
Stalkerman? Feh. Superman.

EXAAAACTLY! its just unseemly, especially when compounded with superman inviting himself in at night to talk to jason. it is superman ,it is innocent , but .., not the kind of awkward kind of thing that lends itself to ridicule that we want to see in a superman movie.

people complain about Superman not being relatable and when he DOES have a moment of weakness and yearning they STILL bitch. You really can't please the fanboys.
Singer gives them a more "human" Superman and they shit all over it. Typical.

Well I like the idea of Superman being the ultimate Boy Scout.. he doesn't drink smoke and tells the truth. In SR they were trying to have their cake and eat it too because they kinda had the boy scout vibe but the eaves dropping was out of line as was Clark in the bar.

^^Your Superman sounds so boring to me, like a robot.
You know, even the best of people have moments of weakness. Supes, Jesus, and the Pope included..

My vote is obvious but what do you all think? If you were on a desert island for the rest of your life and could have STM but had to choose between the Donner Cut OR Superman Returns for it's companion piece, which would you pick? These would be the only Superman movies you'd see again for the rest of your life.

Wait wait wait before you all vote for SR know this:: you would never agAin be able to watch Superman II, all the Gene Hackman scenes, Brando, ETC. Would you REALLY want to preserve SR instead of Donner's SII?

Yup.
The Donner Cut isn't a movie. It's a poorly put together mishmash of scenes that somehow form a slightly coherent plot. The acting isn't even all that great in it.
Superman Returns all the livelong day.

But Superman Returns was just some movie.. the Reeve films are classic peices of cinema (the first 2) I mean even though the Donner cut is a mess at least parts of it are spectacular

There's nothing classic about the Donner Cut. It's a two year old hackjob.

I like the RDC, but not as a movie. It's a very long "extras" DVD to me.

I can't even watch the Donner Cut after I saw this:
Yeah, I know the footage is reused from STM.
