I wouldn't say Spacey was crap. He was just not given any good material. His whole motivation was a STM knockoff. He did come across as actually INTIMIDATING though, unlike Hackman. Hackman's Luthor I'd rather have a drink with than avoid.

It doesn't matter about those cunts. Anyone should be able to tell that scene went over the top for the subject matter You guys are against a dark Superman film - that scene was darker than anything I've seen in a Batman film. Question, how did you feel when Rachel Dawes blew up in TDK? It was a comic book movie that also received a PG-13 for intense action violence. What most of us are against is a dark Superman. We don't need a Burton like Superman. The world around him can be dark, because in all honesty, it is. Superman is the light in the darkness, to me, SR accomplished that.

Again, it's all about the tone.
You have Lex handled in very tongue in cheek fashion, with his wigs and humorous talk about land. You have Kumar making funny faces. Parker Posey making funny comments.
The tone is kinda all over the place.
I like SR, but the film has a wishy-washy feel with the tone.

I may be wrong but from what I remember it was a cgi explosion that was over in a few seconds
Nothing obsessive.

The more looking back at it now, the more crap this film has become in my mind. The only redeeming feature of it is Routh himself. I have seen the movie once when released and tried to sit through the entire DVD which I couldn't bring myself to do. The pointless violence is a major issue with me; it's like a scene from a Pulp Fiction sequel and does not fit into the entire ethos of who Superman is. Lex Luthor in STM was sadistic, he wanted to blow up an entire coast; Donner captured this without resorting to "Hey MuthaF*cker you want your balls cut off!" Bosworth was horribly miscast as Lois and the kid subplot WTF??? What was the point of the Clark Kent scenes? He was never used in this movie.

Exactly the same here, Indo
I've only sat through the DVD once; now I do a Superman III and just forward to the best bits - about 20 mins worth

What happened to Supes in SR is nothing compared to the type of action sequences/fights he's part of in the comics/cartoons. He can be pretty dark when angry, though being the nice guy that he is, he avoids violence and killing as much as possible.
It is also known that most fans really want to see him in some hardcore fights in the next movie that would put the ones from Supes 2 to shame. So, get used to it, I think. Happy-go-lucky-Supes is part of the past.

It's the generation of teenagers today who are brought up on gruesome playstation violence that want these "hardcore fights". I am not against violence in films when there is a sound reason for it (thriller, horror etc).

He can be led down different paths of a story that can be dark, but inherently, Superman is good. And yes, can be light hearted. The concept isn't dead like you're saying. If it were, I would have to give up on watching or reading anything new with superman and just jump off a cliff and kill myself.

True what I am saying though What I don't understand is Why you have to get so personal.. Why you had to attack me? I really don't get why you had to bring Brandon into the subject.. it really had nothing to do with him. You just wanted to taunt me because you had no better argument to respond to mine.

Its not an attack but an observation
Example: Brandon gets a role in "Chuck" and guess what...?

For me, Spacey is the best Lex Luthor by now.

SR I'd have to say isn't a family comic book film in a similiar way in that The Dark Knight isn't a family comic book film. Since they chose to make that scene dark, I would have preferred that they also go with Lex all the way even darker- (i.e. change the real estate scheme for something more plausible)--- and have a more solid 'reimagining' of Lex than the Donner version of him throughout the film, not just that scene in particular.
If I had to agree with the folks who dislike SR, the part that I'd agree on, is that I would have preferred more solid continuity one way or the other on some levels (i.e. I don't have a problem with Lex having previously visited Jorel at the FOS, but having him suddenly realize that Jorel thinks everyone is his son THEN rather than the first time was odd to me)---
--- and that a darker reinvention of Lex would have given Spacey more to do. I was fine with Spacey, but the murky reconception of Lex as real estate madman I wasn't crazy about. Spacey I thought did fine with what he was given.... but I wasn't 1000% crazy about what he was given, either.
