I have a question, So is Lex back in Smallville for this new origin? I REALLY don't like that. It's cheesy, IMO. I prefer it when Lex meets him for the first time in Metropolis like in the movies and other stories like "Superman For All Seasons".

I disagree. It was like that way before the movies and Superman for all Seasons. If done fresh, it should be fine.

I believe he is.
And when done right, Lex in Smallville works very well. Maggin in particular made it seem not just good, but ESSENTIAL, and I wish Smallville had taken more of it's cues from that.
It was standard in the books for 30 years or so, so I have no problem with bringing it back.

You know what pises me off is that there are so many Superman origin stories now that they kinda lose their meaning. I wish they'd stick with one. How many origin stories does Bats or Spidey have?

I've said it before but I'm going to have to pick up all of the Johns/Frank stuff eventually. Not only are the stories top notch, but the art is very realistic and Superman himself clearly based on Reeve. My only thing is I don't like buying individual comics; I prefer trade paperback collections, so I'm always way behind on the stories waiting for them to be released in that form.
With this it looks like a mix of the classic mythology (both pre and post-crisis) and Smallville. Or, what "Birthright" should have been. Interesting they're getting back to the portrayal of Luthor as a genius here; that's something that they often stray away from. The "taking flight to save Lana from a tornado" sequence hinted at in the excerpt is straight out of Smallville. I'm also looking forward to seeing how they develop the Clark/Lex relationship here. There are pros and cons to having Luthor in Smallville, but seeing that in pre-crisis he only knew Superboy and in post-crisis he was never there, this is a new angle for the comics to take.

Dude. Buy them TOMORROW. Do not wait.
Superman And The Legion is great.
but Superman: Brainiac is exactly what a new Superman movie SHOULD be.
Saw some preview pages from Secret Origin in Adventure Comics #1 (also fun), and it just looks like a blast.

This looks swell. The nods to Smallville are quite clear, but there's also Superboy series-era Lex and Lana thrown in there too.

This was a good read. As usual, Gary Frank's artwork is fantastic. I could have done without some of the unnecessary angst, but it's nowhere near as bad as what you get in Smallville...although there are clearly nods to it.
But more importantly, MUCH more importantly, is the re-embracing of STM and the better parts of the silver/bronze age Superman mythology. Note the rocket, the genesis of the suit, Superboy himself, etc.

Yeah, I dunno, I'm not too surprised they went that route. The angsty teen angle. It was a little annoying, yeah, I dunno, you'd think that never would've happened with the Kents raising him right. And not be all Smallvilley, but heck, even in Smallville he was a lot less angsty. Ah well.
Great art as usual. Looking forward to the Legion intro!

It's not bad. And I don't think it's going to carry over into the next issue. Which is the Legion issue. Which I'm looking forward to more than anything.
Look, bottom line, ALL teenagers are confused and angry. Most of the time. They're either confused, horny, angry, or cocky/arrogant. Or a combination of the above. Being raised by the Kents or not, there's no reason to believe that Clark would be any different at 14 or so (which I think is what he's supposed to be in this issue). Hormones are hormones.
It only becomes an issue when it goes on for NINE FRIGGIN' SEASONS.
I think now that this crap is out of the way, we're gonna see some really, really cool stuff. It already beats the tar out of Birthright, and I want more and more and more Gary Frank Superman...especially anything that has anything to do with Krypton.

I'm picking it up tomorrow. Hopefully. I'm still reading and enjoying World of New Krypton. I'm picking the last issue of that one as well. I'm excited.

New Krypton seems to be the best thing to happen to Superman since the Death and Return.

Finally read it (a week ago) and loved it. MAV, There was some angst.. he is a teen in the story... BUT it was done the right way. It was quite compelling. It almost made me cry. Give it a chance.

To be honest, looking at the art & seeing how its obviously intentionally coming off like the show Smallville, I'm gonna pass. Because considering the fact that they draw adult Superman like Reeve, thats like pushing the propaganda that Welling & that shit show show are the ideal link to the Reeve films & I just cant swallow that Blue Pill. I also hate having Luthor in his life when he was a teen. I've always hated it, even before Shitville came to TV. I'm very saddened after seeing the art & reading a few panels. I was looking forward to this more than any comic since New Frontier. Sadly, pass, in a big, certain way.
