man that mon-el and nightwing and flamebird stuff was horribly horribly bad. And where are any of them now. What a waste of an entire year. I like the idea of chris kent. But, it was handled all wrong. They should have just kept the s shield numbering and had the WONK stuff play out in Action and Supes. And I know I see people praising it online, but I think pete woods art and layouts are dreadful.

I actually love the Pete Woods stuff, but he's not for everybody.

I totally understand. I was the same way. A word of advice since you're intent on doing this to yourself. Just do the core mini-series, and then the "World of New Krypton" trades. AVOID the Mon-El by Robinson and Nightwing/Flamebird garbage by Rucka. At least World of New Krypton has some terrific character stuff with Supes and Zod. One thing it did successfully, was they managed to actually make Zod a three-dimensional character for the first time in his 50+ year history. based on your advice, thats what i am collecting now.

Well, since everyone here said that Brainiac is better than Secret Origin & I completely disagree, I'm now looking forward to New Krypton. ;D

That said, I'm only interested in the Gary Frank run.
He dropped out before "World of New Krypton", right?

Gary Frank did nothing on New Krypton other than covers.

Well, it's wrong.
Gary Frank, awesome as he is, can't meet a deadline to save his life. He's not as patently lazy as say, Jim Lee, but everything of his I've ever bought has been late. The majority of the interior art for New Krypton was by Woods or Guedes.

Saw the trade in the Bookstore the other day. Almost picked it up. The art was pathetic compared to Frank's. Which is a deal breaker for me.

I happen to really like Pete Woods' style, particularly his design work, but he is definitely a stylist, as opposed to Frank who's a draftsman.
Guedes' work leaves me really cold.
Mav, trust me, you're missing nothing by skipping New Krypton. It's like the Superman II of comics. You'll always know it could/should be better than it actually is.

It just feels wrong not knowing the continuation of the stories set up in Origin & Brainiac

well then go ahead and read it, but you can just read WONK and that's it. Well there is the one cross over,Codename Patriot, which was horrible. If you do read it then read wonk and war of the supermen and then your all set all the way up to grounded, which is not worth the toilet paper I wipe my ass with.
