I have SII blu-ray on now,the theatrical release. I'm really impressed,it doesn't look murky at all, rich blacks and bold primary colors... This is the first time in ages, I have just sat and appreciated it for what it is without twisting about it or thinking of TDC scenes. What an excellent film... ''Morning,Laueen. Hows it...hanging?'' ;D

All that is left for me to now watch is Superman Returns. So far the ones that have stood out in really looking better than ever before are: STM theatrical, SII theatrical and SIII. SIV looks damn good but SIII and SII have more improvements to them and have the better 5.1 mix. I tend to enable Dolby Pro Logic II for SIV to upmix the 2 channel audio to 5.1 but it still isn't quite the same as a real 5.1 mix.

SR looked great to me in the movies, but (except for the new RTK sequence) on dvd and bluray, the picture quality seems really poor compared to the other blurays during the nighttime scenes, particularly with the early Kent farm scene. Dunno if it's because it's the only one shot on video or if it's just my player/tv set.

It's just a poor master. Something happened to the master between producing film prints and producing DVDs.
Compared to modern releases, that 2006 master scores about a 5/10 in terms of picture quality.

I wouldn't trust the third party sellers.
There has been a problem recently with that set. Check some of the review comments. People have been receiving Spanish versions of the set. Third party sellers were getting them from overseas and reselling them here for more money. Best to wait for Amazon to get it in stock to know for sure.

I'm not sure that anything is worse than "rebuilding-the-great-wall-vision". fuck. THATS the power i want.super strength?fuck you. predictable. telekenisis? piss off, no one's impressed you pretentious asshole. flight? zzzzzz...... get a plane like a normal person. i nvulnerable? what? you think it's cool to get shot at? you listenin to tupac while you're at it? heat vision? you will acccidently nuke your grandma. you know you will. claws? you'l accidently dismember someone. you know you will. you get drunk, you might even lop off the willy in the urinal when you take a piss. utility belt? fucktard! we're talking POWERS!!! not gadgets. homo. invisibility? you must be fat. " flame on" ? gay. gay and dangerous. super stretch? = tiny weiner. breathe underwater? actually not bad. practical. x-ray vision? pervert. genius? no one really likes you. mind reading? pervert. again. super speed? as the most ineteresting man in the world says, no woman wants you to be faster. immortal? no one likes you. forever. control weather? god complex. probably a domestic terrorist. magic ring? oh...aren't we specific... it's like: " i want every power at once". greedy douche bag. so there you have it. asshole powers. but you give me " stare at it and it gets fixed vision" ? i'll take it. think. THINK GODDAMMIT! you break down on the side of the highway. you stare at your engine...aaaaannnnnd..... it roars back to life even though you never check the oil or the radiator fluid. ever. you just stare and its FIXED. whiskey dick? got a hot chick- but you're barley concious and you can't get a boner? stare at it! ....aaaaaaannnnnnd.... BAM! hard on! i would LOVE to have " stare at it and it's fixed vision" or how about the amnesia kiss/spit? is it THAT bad? i think not. i think if ANY of us could cause immediate, permanent-unless-we-want-to -reverse -it-selective-amnesia we would ALL use that. seriously. you'd WANT the wife/girlfriend/both to just "NOT KNOW" shit you don't want them to know.and if it's spit that does it, as opposed to sloppy kisses, so much the better! you could just lift a guys wallet, spit on him and he won't even know you bought a jet-ski with HIS check book. for a jet-ski i'd sloppy kiss a man, but i'd rather just spit on him. or- -how about the " temporary inconvenienced by a flying giant chest symbol" power? that might be handy. if all the other powers are spoken for, thats actually not a bad power. in a hurry? throw the " temporary inconvenience giant chest symbol" and get the herd out of your way. red light? 4-way stop sign? late for work? about to prematurely ejaculate? just throw the "temporary inconvenience giant chest symbol" and you're aces. seriously, you guys need to think this shit through.

Yeah there is something wrong with the SR transfer. I don't remember it looking that bad in the cinema - there was no colour banding, noise or anything. I really hope someday it gets a remaster, and they not only address the issues with the transfer but the colour filters used for the movie. I'm sure they could enhance Routh's costume the same way they enhanced the colours of Reeve's in the remastering - now that would be amazing!

Lol don't worry, I'm waiting till the set is 50 bucks. No joke. Way I see it, I'm really only paying for STM theatrical and S2 theatrical. 25 bucks each is a good price IMO. Actually, I'm hoping someone does a blu-ray version of their S2 fan cut. Preferably Booshman or you Jim

Watched SR yesterday, the RTK scene. How do you think it's best viewed. Before opening credits, after them? completely leave out Lex and the old woman. RTK then Kent farm...Superman returns,boat/Lex and Kitty...
Didnt even watch it all, tend to get bored after Lex/Superman on New Krypton...I stopped it after Lois and the boy visit Superman in hospital. Feel like its a waste of time because it goes nowhere.
There are worse films that have been given a sequel. So annoying we didnt get another.

RTK then Kent farm...Superman returns,boat/Lex and Kitty... I like: -Krypton exploding -Before credits start, drop in RTK (it makes a good split because it's quiet and there's nothing on the screen except stars) -Opening credits -Ben Hubbard deleted scene -Crash landing -Lex and old woman -Dunno what after that....needs something to go between Lex/old woman and the yacht Perhaps everything before Metropolis would need to be jumbled around as a result. In hindsight, I'm really not a fan of the young Clark flashback. It's cute, but does nothing to service the plot. I would probably cut it in a fan cut. Seems to me it was just an excuse for Singer/Ottman to use the Smallville/Leaving Home theme. MAV will chew my head off for such a thought. ;D

It's a completely pointless scene. Like the flying with Lois scene, it adds nothing to the plot. BULL. FUCKING. SHIT. The flashback scene established (For a new generation) that he didn't develop some of his powers until puberty. Also, it has been suggested, that he actually needed glasses until that point. Something that was going to play into sequels with all of Jason's ailments. It also allowed us to see an age in Clark's life that hadn't been shown in the Donnerverse yet. On top of that, it's exciting & has a true sense of wonder & wide open spaces to it. As for the flight scene, it allows Superman to tell Lois and the world where he has been & why. It allows Superman to discover if Lois really loves Richard. It allows Superman to point out that the world does need Superman, to counter her article. And its just beautiful & romantic as heck.

The flashback scene established (For a new generation) that he didn't develop some of his powers until puberty. The film shouldn't be trying to explain things to a new generation, when it is so clearly trying to follow on from STM and S2. It assumes that viewers remember Marlon Brando as Jor El and that they are familiar with his speech on Krypton, even using it as the opening of SR. So why do those viewers need to be spoonfed Clark's backstory? Maybe. But it's a diversion. STM covered his early life perfectly. Why go back and revisit it in a sequel set decades later? Well, I agree with that, but it doesn't add anything to the story. It's an example of what I was talking about in the "Superman Returns" thread where I said I thought SR was a patchwork of individual scenes that were good stand-alone, but didn't work well together as a story. Why couldn't those three points be made on the Daily Planet rooftop? Why did Lois need to go flying with him for them to have that discussion? She couldn't even hear all the people crying for help, so it was a bit pointless taking her up and then asking her if she can hear anything! Agreed. But that is its only value. Again, it's an example of a nice stand-alone scene, but one that doesn't move the story along. It's redundant.

It assumes that viewers remember Marlon Brando as Jor El and that they are familiar with his speech on Krypton, even using it as the opening of SR. So why do those viewers need to be spoonfed Clark's backstory? Because it was showing you a period in his life we hadn't seen yet, & establishing something new with his eyesight/glasses. That & it's just really fucking fun. See my above statement. Not every scene in every good movie has to add to the story. Sometimes it can be fun, or romantic, or magical just for the sake of it. That & It DOES (For the 3rd time) add to the story. The part about his eyesight/glasses is new information. And I strongly disagree. Seriously dude? Seriously? That's all ya got? ;D He was obviously trying to feel out if he still had a shot with Lois or not. He simply wanted to go flying with his Ex-girlfriend with whom he is still madly in love. Jesus dude ;D ;D ;D The question he asked her was obviously rhetorical. It just had more impact for her to see everything that Superman has to watch over & that he has to hear each day of his life. You should at least stick to the parts that you really can pick apart. Like the lifting of New Krypton or whether or not you like him looking through the wall at Lois' house. Those are up for debate. I personally like them fine, but I can see why others might not. The scenes that you are picking at right now (For the sake of picking) are good & have answers to all your questions. I disagree & explained why above. I disagree & explained why above You're right, Superman should never take Lois flying again. ;D

See, there are reasons for the scenes. Its just up to you on whether you like them or not. I do, where as you do not. Simple as that. I agree to disagree

Have you seen the "Superman Restored" fan edit?

Post by MAVERICK on Aug 14, 2011 15:29:08 GMT -5
Nope. Made my own fan edit years ago.
Made it just the way I wanted it. I have to revise it now & add Return To Krypton.
But, as I said, I love it just the way I have it. And to me, that's all a fan cut is really about. Making it just they way you personally want it.
And since I'm on the subject, my cut does not open with Lex.
It opens on the Kent farm with Ma & Ben & it REALLY helps the feel of the movie. You'd probably like it a little better. I also added all the Clark on the Farm stuff. I love taking time out from the story & just getting to live in a characters skin for a little while. But, thats just me.
I cant wait to see it open with Return to Krypton.
