Guys, I wouldn't get your hopes up about the original SR opening ... it may be of the originally planned opening credits and not the return to Krypton scene. Shit, I never thought of that. Definitely gonna need confirmation on that before I buy...that's a deal breaker for me.

how much of a difference in sound can we expect with this new release and the original Blu Ray release of STM? I'm a bit behind on the whole lossless terminology. Pretty much the difference between an mp3 and a CD. Only audiophile nerds will notice.

Agreed. Otherwise, I'd assume that they'd make a much bigger deal about announcing that part of it in their ads, if it was that scene, like the 'now with the never-before-seen Brando scenes' marketing bitz they did for the RDC. Yeah that was weird, but maybe they just didn't make a big deal out of it because they just didn't want to (the jerks)... You know this is WB, and they aren't exactly very fond of SR. I think it has to be the RTK scene. I hope so. Any way, I've decided to wait for reviews and for the price to go down.

besides you have to remember that it's only the hardcore fans (like us) that would really want or need a more detailed description than "original opening". I think it's gotta be return to krypton, or else they probably wouldn't have even bothered calling it out specifically, and would have regulated to calling the comic book opening just another deleted scene.

Nay, I think was a comic book sequence showing what happened in STM, kinda. No? yes. the SR coffee table book, with all the concept art, had a sample of the comic pages, a drawing of brando as Jor and so forth.

Hearing this has made me a very happy person. It's like WB finally listened to the fans.
Three things that are a must watch for me:
STM Theatrical SII Theatrical SR: Original Opening
i'm so glad they didn't just port over the same stuff from the DVD boxset and previous blu-rays with this release.

WB is inconsistent. They appear to be delivering the goods with the Superman set, but for LOTR, they're just putting out two lazy DVD ports in a row. Would it kill WB to add a couple new featurettes. Perhaps a 10-years-later retrospective?
LOTR is the more valuable property....I guess WB realizes that Superman is a one-shot deal. Once it's out, no one is going to bother. But with LOTR, they know that the larger fanbase will rebuy it if they throw in any new content, so they're milking it.

Am I the only one who's going to buy this regardless of the extras? If Return to Krypton ain't on there, ah well, but I still want the movies in 1080p. I'll watch extras once. I don't buy movies for extras.

There are exceptions, though. Those Fleischer Superman cartoons have more re-watch value than roughly half of the Superman film franchise.

I don't buy movies for extras. I don't buy a Blu-ray for extras. But if it's a movie or set I already on DVD, I will only upgrade to Blu-ray if they carry over the DVD extras and do a good job with picture quality. Predator, Commando, and Kingdom of Heaven, Spider-Man 1-2, to name a few, drop the ball, either by dropping all the extras or screwing up the picture quality (Predator is such a clusterfuck). I would upgrade those if they matched the DVDs in quality. I'd rather own and watch a DVD with 10/10 video than a Blu-ray with 5/10 video, even though the movie would look better on the Blu. I don't reward crappy quality.

I will buy them probably regardless of features I must admit too, but also because it will be first time for me to see the theatrical versions in 1080p! SIV will be amusing, as always. That will be fun.

I can't wait to see the moon curtains in Superman IV in HD. ;D
Speaking of curtains, I hope they fix the visible curtain when the Krypton sun explodes in STM. That's an eyesore.

If they fix that, they might as well fix everything. Leave it be, I say. It's how the movie was seen in 1978. That's how I wanna see it.
GOD, I do hope the Fleischer cartoons are in HD. AND the Looney Tunes ones.

Was it? I don't see it in the S2 opening credits, or on either of the DVDs. It was just on the first Blu-ray.

GOD, I do hope the Fleischer cartoons are in HD. AND the Looney Tunes ones. From what I have read the cartoons will not be HD. I wonder why, they are not that long that they would take up too much space. And these are the WB exclusive remasters that they made back in 2006, they had to have been HD transfers? Right? One would hope. Maybe they are planning a seperate Blu release like they did with dvd.

That's gotta be the blu-ray set even though it says DVD. There is no way that the equivalent DVD set would cost $90. Maybe $60 or $70. Not $90.

Most of the Trek movies on Blu-ray are almost that bad... Case in point:
