hey guys a little OT - but is the 5.1 mix really worth spending $500+ for a new home theater surround system?
if it wasn't for the movie, i honestly wouldn't have any impetus.

The Bits confirms that STM's original theatrical audio mix will be in DTS-HD 2.0.
Return to Krypton will be included in HD.
Documentary "The Science of Superman" which was a Circuit City exclusive in 2006, will be included in HD.

This is the first confirmation I'm hearing about the Return to Krypton sequence being the alternate opening. That's very good news.

If the original mix for STM is really thrown in there, then that is a definite must buy from me. I think they've realised how popular it was after the dvd audio fiasco. Oh yeah, it's happening! My VISA card number is 4499-1600-0000-1234 lol

Great news indeed! But I'm still not really willing to pay that much $ for this set. Around $100 sounds so much better. I'll look around for the best price. I'm sure the scene will be on youtube in no time. Watch the Return to Krypton scene be under 2 minutes long. ;D If I remember well it was around 10 or so minutes long, but I'm not really sure, though. This person who had seen it told us over at the now gone Bluethighs site. He said the sequence was amazing. Any way, I won't raise my expectations too high just in case it's not that good, lol.

Watch the Return to Krypton scene be under 2 minutes long. ;D I think so too. Complete CGI footage of an anonymous looking ship flying around a bit of rock for a few minutes. Not much to get excited about. Much rather see a scene where Routh gets to act a little

Check out the WHV promo on Capedwonder's site. The new master of the film looks like it has reverted back to the pre-dvd "look". I'm not technical enough to describe exactly what it is. But a good example would be the xk101 rocket footage in that promo. Compare the exposure on the rocket exhaust with the dvd transfer --- the latter has a much brighter flare (and cooler looking IMO).
Anyone else notice this?

Anyone else notice this? Are you refering to the bluray trailer? If so, I wouldn't worry about that. They will often cut trailers from whatever standard source material is available at the time. The SW bluray trailer showed OT clips with seemingly the same color issues from the DVD's and word is that is NOT how the blurays will look come September.

SOLD! yeah- done deal. but there were other scenes cut, that weren't int he "deleted scenes" section, besides that one: - smallville flashback- young clark falls through the barn and levitates above the ground- THEN- he notices his galsses onthe ground, from there the (cut) scene has him discovering x-ray vision and finding the space ship from S:TM and finding a crystal. - when clark arrives at metropolis the cabbie complains how heavy clarks suticases are, then clark effortlessly lifts them. - clark looks at superman suit INthe suitcase - clark pulls open shirt, remembers he left in the closet ( scene set-up is IN the movie) and has to retrieve it. -superman/clark has anxiety about reappearing -superman foils a robbery poses with grateful citizen - after superman catches the DP globe, he has a moment of dialog with perry - after superman's fall from space, and lois' visit inthe hospitol ma kent and lois have a brief exchange there were also axtra bits of dialog here and there, scene extensions i'd like to see. also, part of a scene was filmed where clark buries the crashed ship i do hope thats all included.

Yep, I would say they should include everything this time around. Superman Returns will probably never get any further treatment than this. Include ALL the deleted material.

it is very sad to see this images. SR could be so much watchable. it is like they wanted deliberately screw the movie by removing the cool stuff. the next thing to appear is a brainiac deleted scene.

If this is what was taken OUT the film then I don't have high hopes for it
Would he really stop to look in a mirror second guessing himself while Lois' life is in serious danger?
Routh looks too scrawny in that cafe shot. I think someone should have lent him George Reeves' body padding!

Good point. The whole 'shirt rip but no shirt' I thought should get credit for playing against expectations and trying to put in something fresh, but in the end, I think they (wisely) decided it was better to have a cgi-costume painted in and make it a 'quick shirt rip' than not at all.
Pity. The first costume reveal I was hoping would have been something more iconic as well (ie like Lester's alleyway shirtrip in SII), but - as you mentioned- having Supes slow down for any reason at that point would seem to go against the energy of that whole airplane rescue scene, especially with Lois' life in danger.
