Mike, as I told ya, our group very much values the freedom we have to state our opinions in the open. You came off a bit touchy when ya posted your pics. Ya just cant be touchy when you're putting your stuff on the net. People are gonna give their opinions. This board is THE community for all things Donnerverse. We were the first community ever dedicated exclusively to the Reeve films & have therefore been around the longest, so, yeah, a board full of guys who know our Reeve are gonna have opinions about his likeness. I promise you, no one means ya any harm. They are just teasing you a little for seeming so touchy about it. Trust me, its just a big rollicking boys club. Welcome aboard matey

Sensitive males in the board now?
Maverick is salivating. When does the crying begin? That way I can be in the Star Wars thread when it goes down.

Wow, Mike, that was WAAAAY too easy. You seem a good chap. Just busting your balls. It happens here. My balls are constantly black and blue from all the busting that occurs here. Give it right back, sir! The correct response would've been, "Fuck off, Kev!" with a ;D and BOOM! That would've been it. I would've accepted you with open arms. But nooo... I kid. Welcome aboard. Nice statues.

It's amazing work, looks like an actual human being.
In regards to criticism on the net with sharing a piece of work up on the net.....
I've put short films up (and have friends that also do short films that go up on youtube)--- and in THAT case, there are folks that insult the films' actors--- who aren't from Hollywood- on personal levels of their looks, and it can really ugly for unnecessary reasons.
What's fair criticism and what's just being mean is a mixed bag on the internet. There are two extremes- Some folks feel like it means carte blanche to be rude as heck just because everyone else is doing so--- and --- some folks demand only praise when asking for feedback.....
My own feeling is: there's a distinction between professional display and a personal display of work shared.
If this was a professional work shown to clients, then it's appropriate that the client can say what they want, no? (i.e. Selling a piece of work asking for money)
If this was a personal work shown to friends who have love of the same, then I'd think that two things apply: (1) for the artist/creator, to have the responsibility to ask ahead of time what kind of parameters they expect their feedback, if they want limits on it- (2) for the community (any community), to only say something that they wouldn't be afraid to say (and in that way) to the person's face, if they were present in the same room.
I've known friends (irl) that I've felt were over-sensitive to creative feedback asked for, and I've known friends that could be more tactful in giving other friends feedback as well-
So--- both sides can/should decide what their reasons are for communicating when it comes to this kind of stuff.
The bad thing is: of course, tone and meaning often get lost via internet. I know I've over-reacted to a lot of posts, and/or have miscommunicated something more than a few times on the net.
My own opinion on it? It's amazing that it looks like a real human being- I certainly couldn't do it. Does it look like Reeve to me? Yes, but - to me- something feels slightly 'off' to me, but- bear in mind- (1) art is subjective and (2) I haven't ANY Reeve sculpture look 100% 'just right' to me.
So, for what it's worth....

One more thing regarding the hair. During Superman the movie and Superman 2 ,Reeve's hair changes back and forth between different styles constantly, due to the time of shooting and different directors. In 3 and 4 Reeves wears wigs, lighter in color than the first movie. So your point about the hair confuses me. If there is a specific still or scene that sticks out in YOUR mind, then I cant possibly match that..I can only do what I like. I even went as far as adding lighter, shorter hair along the forehead where Reeves real color often showed. Thanks. the hair just doesn't look quite as full/thick as reeve wore it. the sculpts hair seems a little flat, but perhaps it looks that way because of the angle the photo was taken?? it looks like it could use a little more styling.

Totally incredible piece of work! you've really made a fantastic tribute to the man and his image as Superman. I've read the previous posts and all I can say is take it all as positive, no one ever wants something to look bad especially something as great as this and it's being critiqued by Superman fans who adore Reeve + you have a bullet proof portfolio so you dont have anything to proove. From my point, and I've modelled Reeve so I'm sharing my observations, there are minor tweeks you could make that would really set it off. if you dont want to know then please ingore the rest, otherwise - you need a stronger torso as the chest size is wrong for the size of his head, the bottom of his chest muscles should hit just where you start to see the shadow of his rib cage. In doing this the face will appear softer and the likeness will really hit home. I'd also thicken his hair out towards the upper sides of his head. As you are unable to change the sculpt I recommend you change your lighting set up as the shadow under his eyes is way to harsh and shoot using a different lens as it would be ideal if you could make a narrower perspective. Also his eyes, maybe apply a little eyeliner to the base of his eye, he would have had some applied during makeup for the film and I think you could apply a little more to the lower eye lid. Here's a photo to address the changes these. You dont need to take my advice but I'm suggesting them in the nicest way possible. peace. postimage.org/image/35dtxz5s4/

It's been revealed where Mike Hill's life-sized Reeve statue will be on display. I'm looking forward to seeing more pics of this things from different angles. herocomplex.latimes.com/2011/06/05/superman-returns-christopher-reeve-statue-will-be-on-display-at-hero-complex-film-festival/‘Superman’ returns: Christopher Reeve statue will be on display at Hero Complex Film Festival
Fans at the Hero Complex Film Festival will be able to take a photo with a life-size — and lifelike — statue of Hollywood’s most heroic Superman.
The amazing statue is the work of British sculptor and artist Mike Hill, who is building an international reputation as a master in his field. He has worked frequently with horror film icons as his subjects but in creating this caped tribute to the late, great Christopher Reeve, Hill tapped into something more sentimental from his own past. “I made this piece to remind me of my youth,” the 42-year-old sculptor said. “As adults we forget the magic moments that forged our childhood dreams. For me ‘Superman’ still ignites that little boy who couldn’t afford popcorn watching an uplifting and incredibly exciting superhero save the planet. I believed a man could fly … and I still do.”
The statue is a bit startling to behold and its creation was a complicated one. “This figure was sculpted in clay from various stills of Mr. Reeve,” Hill said. “The sculpture was then reproduced in silicone rubber and fiberglass. The skin is painted in layers to reflect human skin tones. The acrylic eyes are custom made to match Reeves’ own. Each hair is punched [into place] one at a time. The costume is an exact replica of the original.”
Reeve died in 2004 at age 52 and the legacy of his work in film, television and the stage is matched by his inspirational accomplishments as an author, fundraiser and activist following his grievous spinal cord injury in 1995. The statue will be on display Saturday and, beginning at 2:45 p.m., fans will be permitted to take photos.
“Superman” and “Superman II: The Donner Cut” will be screened beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Director Richard Donner will be interviewed on stage between those two films and is the guest of honor at this year’s festival. The Saturday program also features a one-hour signing session by Mike Mignola (the “heckboy” creator who designed this year’s festival poster) at 2:45 p.m. and a special appearance by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee, who will talk publicly for the first time about major new changes in the DC Universe. The Saturday ticket for access to all of those events is $45.
The festival runs June 9-12. Other onstage guests include Warren Beatty and a “Dick Tracy” screening on Thursday; Alex Kurtzman, Damon Lindelof, Nicholas Meyer and Roberto Orci for the special “Star Trek” program on Friday; and Jon Favreau on Sunday with a screening of “Iron Man” and “Iron Man 2,” as well as an exclusive new preview of “Captain America: The First Avenger” — plus some interesting surprises.

And for those that didn't follow my twitter posts, I've got plenty of pics and I'm sure they won't do the sculpture justice....that fucking statue rocked BIG TIME! The picture posted in here is a victim of bad lighting. In fact, in lower level light, it looks 110% real, my little minions ....will post a place to view the pics later and I'll try to get the best ones....(Snapped about 60 photos although with an iPhone so...eh) but it was a huge hit and Donner himself was taken aback by how realistic it looked (For proof, I have the audio clip of him briefly mentioning it...will post soon) Mavcon

Mike Hill just posted this in another forum: Hi guys
Ok ,I made some minor changes to the piece. I softened the smile folds under the eyes (a bit daunting, to actually sculpt in silicone on the silicone finished head!) and had a pro photographer shoot him out in daylight (rather than the studio 'werewolf' lighting from before). We didnt have a cityscape so we did it in the mountains to look like the end of first film..but the sun wouldnt play ball so we had to shoot him against greenery.Oh well.Im much happier with the statue and shot.
Cheers.
