Interesting. From Dc Source: "This May, the Eisner Award-winning creative team of the NEW YORK TIMES bestselling TINY TITANS, Art Baltazar and Franco, will continue bringing their wonderful and unique humor to DC Comics with the new ongoing monthly series, SUPERMAN FAMILY ADVENTURES. The series will be starring (you guessed it!) the whole Superman gang – Superman, Supergirl, Superboy, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Lex Luthor, Bizarro, General Zod and … Fuzzy the Krypto Mouse! But wait, there’s more! Before SUPERMAN FAMILY ADVENTURES hits stores, you’ll be able to get a sneak peak at the series in the DC Nation 2012 Free Comic Book Day Super Sampler! “I have been sitting on the edge of my seat, biting my tongue about SUPERMAN FAMILY ADVENTURES since Thursday, July 21st at approximately 4pm, when Art & Franco came to see me at SDCC and showed me the proposal for this series,” said series editor Kristy Quinn. “Whew. Now, at least, you’re all stuck waiting with me—I was getting lonely sitting at my desk with all this cool stuff I couldn’t share!”

Superman #4
Sucks. SUCKS. SUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS!
Awful. So goddamn boring. Not just the worst of this series, the worst single issue of any New 52 book that I've read. I'm ONLY sticking with this because I know that we've got Giffen/Jurgens on the horizon.
But, seriously...even when they get here, this book needs a drastic change in tone. This version of Clark makes Tom Welling's seem happy-go-lucky. I can't fucking stand this shit.

Were I not an obsessive Superman completist, and if I didn't know for sure that there's a better creative team coming, this would have made me drop the book. Instead, I'm gonna tough it out for two more issues of this crap.

Yeah, Perez's writing is doing nothing for me. And I think this mystery has been dragged out for too long. Issue #1 was decent as it was all new and set up some pretty interesting stuff. But, the past three issues, eh. Bring on Jurgens baby!

I have a good feeling about that Jurgens/Giffen run.

Ooh, cool. AND Kubert's doing the art! Nice.
I ended up getting Supes #4. I'm back in. Not halfway. All the way.

oof.
I just re-read Superman 1-4. I can't even tell you what a chore this was. Not only is this a dull book, but it's just so fucking repetitive. Twice an issue "Clark has been awfully mopey lately." "Yeah, well, you know Clark, he's always been such a loner." "Yeah, Clark only cares about homeless people and stuff."
That, and people just recount events FROM THAT ISSUE over and over again.
I...I think I hate this comic. Like, I was kinda meh on it, but I really think I hate it now. Two more issues before the cavalry arrives...

On the other hand, Action Comics #5 was WONDERFUL. One of the best interpretations of the origin I've ever seen.

Also, Action #5 is a nice example of a way that you can keep certain elements from previous versions of the story INCLUDING Donnerverse Crystals, and still create something new with it.

3/4 of Action #5 was pretty sweet. But, I was born in 1985, and "Man Of Steel" superman is MY superman. And the legion never played a part in Superman's origin for me, so I wasn't a fan when Johns reintroduced this concept, and it appears to be continuing now.

Out of all the great writers in comics, why did they choose Perez? He did NOT get his claim to fame through his prose work for sure. I assumed that they chose him in order to get him to do the art, (like John Byrne back in the day) but as he's NOT doing the art (or not fully)--- and given that the art isn't even all that great--- they might as well have had Marv Wolfman do the art.

There are no words to describe how much I hated Superman #6. George, I love ya, but I will never buy another book that you write. Terrible, overwritten...and...even the NAMES he makes up for characters somehow suck. "Dough". For real? "DOUGH". Mayor Morrisroe? What the fuck kinds of names are these? I was on board with that mopey story at first because I felt the whole alien angle reminded me of 70s/80s Supes comics. But this story was so fucking thin, Bates/Maggin/Pasko could have wrapped it up in ONE issue. I'm so glad this is over. Bring on Giffen/Jurgens.

In stark contrast to the other Superman title, I really, really enjoyed Action #7.
I do still have my complaints with this story. I feel it's too "kitchen sink". Too many elements introduced at once. I would have been really happy with a six or eight issue story just dealing with "social justice Superman" and introducing Lex Luthor, etc. Instead we get Metallo, Brainiac, etc. etc. etc.
BUT...
This was a fun comic. And we definitely now see Superman behaving like, well...Superman. I feel that the kryptonian armor thing was a little forced, but it's worth noting that Rags Morales is one of the few people I've seen draw it so far who makes it look cool and not bulky.
Looking forward to next month's conclusion!

When does Supes #7 come out? I can't fucking wait! Jurgens returns to Superman! I'm way too goddamn excited for this. I never question why I'm single anymore.

Fucking wonderful.
I really hope it knocks it out of the park. I haven't read anything recent by Giffen, I wonder if he's still got it?

I've read some of Giffen's stuff in the last couple of years. He's hit and miss, but, I assure you, even on his worst day it'll be better than the first six issues of this book.

I just read #7.
It's not a homerun, more like a triple, but it's DEFINITELY a step in the right direction.
Right off the bat, you get a great couple of Superman shots from Jurgens that are GORGEOUS. The story itself is pretty fun, there were many times I laughed or at least smiled. The comic found it's lightheartedness again, thank God. A lot of the art is kinda wonky for some reason, I don't really get that, but for the most part, it's pretty damn good.

ahhhhhhhhh....
What a relief this book was.
It's not great, but it's good. It feels like a Superman comic. It's fun. The art is pleasant (although as Kev pointed out, it's not Jurgens' best work). And there's none of the moping from the first six issues. It's still wordy and dense, but less so than the previous issues, but I still felt like I got my money's worth. I'm on board for this book now. It feels good to be looking forward to the next issue.

I quite enjoyed it. See that opening Jurgens page was just awesome. I wish Jurgens was doing all of the art duties. Having Merino doing finishing art is kind of weird over Jurgens Pencils. But, what is with the suit, so the suit form fits under his clothes, then can transform to the armor when he needs it. It needs to be explained a little more. And seeing the "normal" style suit for that one panel makes me realize just how much I actually miss it.

I'm guessing we'll get more on the suit from Action Comics, probably soon, too? (edit) Yep! It's explained. Just read Action #7. It was GREAT. Very, very fun. I'm really loving Rags' art, too.
I like that we at least got an explanation as to WHY he looks like that. And yeah, seeing the normal "S" on the normal blue top was awesome, but I don't think it was the whole suit underneath it. I think it's just a shirt, or maybe more of a wifebeater.
