I hate to interrupt metallos misharacterisations and broad brush accusations- but for the record- for EVERYONE ELSE let me make sure I'm clear about a couple things: Uh huh We now return to the regularly scheduled douchbag programming already in progress ladies and gents. Yeah right. Didn't take him long to slip a few jabs in there did it? So you say it's others that can't respect opinions but you call disliking MOS trendy and piling on. Maybe it's not trendy? Maybe some people genuinely don't care for the film and don't care how others feel one way or the other.

I'm pretty sure I already knew a lot of people genuinely don't like the film. When I say "trendy" I'm talking about bandwagoners who 'like' a movie/show when its all hyped and then 180 when the hype wears off.

Uh huh. And Paul Dini piled on too I guess. Maybe he has no interest for his own tastes and not because he's piling on.

Pretty sure I repeatedly said I admire paul dini and I'm not bothered by his view of MOS. Another thing I have repeatedly said, over and over.

You know what I like? I like kittens. Kittens are great.
They're so fiesty and playful. Hilarious they think they're badass but then so skittish. Orange tabbies rule. But I think torties and blu siamese are just beautiful.

Then the claws will come out and he will be a dirty Obama loving commie cocksucker? Right, Jor? oh my sides. Us vs them! The other sides piling on! Oh noes!

Any word on what Bruce Timm thought? Sent from my SPH-D710 using proboards That's an interesting question but maybe he's biting his tongue. Some of the people in the business like the movie and some love it. Others not so much. It's hard to say. The dude is pretty specific about what he likes to see but as a fellow creator maybe he will just roll with it. I think it'll be years before we get some people's real and totally honest opinion on this movie.

I had a kitten once, he was stuck in a tree. No joke. That's how we found him.
We called him "tarzan" for that. He was the best kitten.

TDK didn't feel like a comic book movie because it transcended the genre. If anything, it's a crime drama, not a superhero movie. It got regular people to watch it and like it and not be embarrassed to like a comic book movie. I don't know who said it, but I defer to the wisdom I'll now paraphrase: It worked because Nolan in part deconstructed the genre and one trope that the endgame is a big ol' brawl. The big climax of the movie wasn't some overdone fist fight. In fact, the Joker even brags that he didn't hinge the "battle for Gotham's soul" on a fist fight. He destroyed Dent to the point that the Batman and Gordon claimed victory based on a lie. In a way, the Joker won. Not immediately, but it sure as shit unraveled eight years later. Iron Man movies ended with brawls. Cap ended with a brawl. Thor ended with a brawl. Avengers ended with a brawl. MoS ended with a brawl. No one gives two farts how Green Lantern ended because everyone stopped watching after 43 minutes and no one knows the ending. Batman Begins ended with a brawl. TDKR didn't end with a brawl, but it still wasn't as ballsy as the ending of TDK. If Ledger's death was the only reason that picture made money, Tom Hiddleston would be dead now. Okay, that's hyperbole, but I stand by the rest. I hate that transcended the genre thing. That's the problem with it, that's why I'm not a big fan, it doesn't feel like a comic book film because it actively went out of it's way to appeal to people who thought themselves above comic book films, it's so glaringly self important and pretentious.. It's like Charlie Brooker said in his TDKR review (TDKR funnily enough isn't nearly as bad as TDK for this) I spoke to people about TDK when it came out who said it was brilliant but curiously couldn't actually say much more about it, it's as if they didn't even take it in but just sat there to say they'd seen it. I'm glad you guys as Batman fans genuinely enjoy it that much, to me it's just a good film but nowhere near ground breaking or a game changer. The notion of "transcending the genre" isn't a bad thing. If one film does more than hit the usual genre beats, gains a good reputation, and brings casual moviegoers into that world and gets them to take a chance on similar movies, whether Marvel or DC, how is that a bad thing? I don't think the intention of Nolan and company was to look down our nose at us, but to think about how to broaden the material in a way that doesn't do away with what fans want, but at the same time appeal to a bigger base. It took chances in that it cast people like Ledger against type and it asked you to care about secondary characters just as much as the main character in order to created a fuller world. Comic book movies rarely did these things. I mean, Jack Nicholson as the Joker and Patrick Stewart as Xavier were no great stretches in character casting. They're painfully obvious. Doesn't mean they did a bad job with the role, but it was expected. TDK was a game changer in that it broadened the audience, which is obviously a goal of many filmmakers and studios. Money-wise, it was the first comic book movie to gross a billion dollars. Regardless of your opinion -- and that's fine, because I certainly don't think every movie I like is a great movie, just a movie I like -- you can't deny those are facts. Dude, I like debating this stuff with you, and with others. I'd be bored to death and bolt this place if we all agreed that everything was good or great or exactly what we wanted out of these movies. But you've got to quit taking things so personally. It's only a movie.

It's quite lame actually now that we see it in that light - if you're a comic book movie - the script must end in a huge fight with lots of destruction. Well, they're not all that predictable. Green Lantern may have ended with Chuck and Blair getting back together while Serena leaked it to Gossip Girl, for all I know. I didn't finish it. But it's fun to think about how these things ended. X-Men: brawl X-2: not a brawl ... interesting X-3: didn't see it X-Origins Wolverine: brawl X-Men First Class: brawl Spider-Man: brawl Spider-Man 2: brawl Spider-Man 3: ridiculous brawl Amazing Spider-Man: brawl Punisher: urban terrorism ... by the protagonist! Punisher War Zone: stupid brawl Batman: brawl Batman Returns: not a brawl Batman Forever: not a brawl Batman & Robin: brawl DareDevil: brawl Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: brawl TMNT II: ninja rap brawl TMNT III: brawl TMNT animated: brawl V for Vendetta: brawl with lots of slow-mo knives Watchmen: no one cares because the rest of the movie pissed them off Ghost Rider: no one saw it Ghost Rider 2: no one claims making this movie, it just showed up one day Catwoman: no one will admit seeing it Fantastic Four: didn't see it Fantastic Four 2: didn't see it Blade: epic katana brawl Blade II: don't recall seeing it Blade Trinity: Jesus, how many of these comic book movies has Ryan Reynolds been in? Hulk: brawl with a storm Incredible Hulk: CGI brawl Judge Dredd: awesome brawl between Stallone's and Assante's accents Kick-Ass: brawl with a flying mini-gun set to Elvis singing "American Trilogy" Road to Perdition: no one realized this was a comic book movie TimeCop: all I remember is Mia Sara gettin' butt nekkid!

Watching TDK with Rifftrax on kinda...sorta...ruined the movie for me. Not in the obvious way in that they're making fun of, but WHAT they make fun of, you realize, damn...this movie is pretty stupid...it's still great, but...dumb. They tend to make you realize that, really. Ha..haha...
Brad, you rule. That was hilarious. Did you see the new Dredd? I bought it based on some clowns here liking it. Maybe you're one. I dunno. Percocets.

Didn't ruin the movie, but yeah, it points out some stupid shit. "How's security?" "Tighter than a 1950s country club!" Damn. I mean, it shouldn't be funny, but damn.
