It is SUPPOSED to be upsetting. It supposed to be 9/11-ish in that world. But if popular critical acclaim has this much influence on you- then watch it in 20-30 years. It took a while for blade runner to get over critical disdain. About 20-30 years. Blade Runner was so ahead of its time and so unique most people didn't get it. MOS is no Blade Runner on any level and its certainly not unique or groundbreaking filmmaking IMO. All I know is...when I saw Blade Runner for th first time it blew my mind and put me in a state of total awe. MOS? Not so much. Jimbo should decide for himself tho.

I couldn't find time opening weekend. Since then, I've lost interest.

I couldn't find time opening weekend. Since then, I've lost interest. Dude that's crazy. You should at least see it once in the theater to make up your own mind. Don't ever let the internet determine your opinion of the movie, whether good or bad.

I'm not refusing to see it. But I really hate the theater experience. I'll wait for a rental.

Okay. That I will agree with. It's just getting worse and worse. I hate NYC audiences. Some theaters, some days, used to be fine. No longer. Just shitbags. Everywhere. Shitbags.

Then again, its a VERY visual film and you will get the best experience at the big screen.

That's a shame Jimbo. I personally hate the cinema too. The last film I saw in the cinema before this was TDK In saying that, for visuals and sound I think this film is worth making the effort for, I can't see it having quite the same effect in your home cinema. I feel watching it at home some of the films flaws might stand out even more

Nothing says good time like someone's baby crying for an hour or a bunch of kids yapping or some bitch talking on her phone!
I think My third viewing of Avengers may have been one of the worst movie going experiences of my life.

Yay! My wife says I can go one more time, even though we're a little tight on money, but I can go to the 3D IMAX. But, it's the last time I can do it until it goes to our $2 second-run theater or home video. Turns out she wants to see it again in 3D as well. My ol' lady may drive me nuts sometimes, but at least she's into superhero movies. I'm downright giddy.
One thing I like about the outrageous prices of 3D IMAX is that people don't seem to fuck around as much and they certainly don't bring kids. Just my experience.

Last night, there were a group of teens laughing and making phone calls in the front row, in a 3/4 full theatre. (I was pretty high up in the theatre, and was mentally prepped, so it didn't bug me as much)- but was glad when an older guy two row above them yelled at them finally to shut up and turn off the damn phones. Fortunately/suprisingly they complied. But, yeah.
And- GREAT POINT..... The IMAX3d is so expensive, that one doesn't have to worry about the audience behavior so much. At least ONE good thing about it.

I'm not refusing to see it. But I really hate the theater experience. I'll wait for a rental. Hard to argue that point. People don't respect the act of going to the cinema anymore, it's as casual a thing to most as going to McDonald's. Unless I have to go to an early screening, I generally avoid opening weekend entirely... where in the past I'd totally get off on the excitement of seeing a film opening night with an excited crowd. And forget midnight screenings, that's for kids. But crowds suck now... everywhere. People with their phones, talking to their friends, laughing at inappropriate times, etc.. Not to mention the overall hassle of waiting on long lines and dealing with crowds in general has gotten torturous as I've gotten older. So now, I'd prefer to see a film after the hype dies down, preferably a week or so later on a weekday with a minimum sized crowd to contend with. Jimbo, you should definitely see MOS in a theater, it's big screen worthy... but wait a month or so, when you'll practically have the theater to yourself.

I'll wait until it's in a nearby $5 theater.
I have to be hungry to go the theaters now. There's not another summer movie I'm even remotely interested in seeing in a full theater with 45 minutes of commercials and trailers, with glowing cell phones and fussy children.

Seeing this in IMAX 3D was magnificent. The 3D was COMPLETELY pointless but, I dunno if it was a different print, as it looks BEAUTIFUL. The suit, especially, is REALLY blue and shiny on an IMAX screen. You can see everything VERY well, the CGI looks a LOT better than it does on a regular screen, the sound is just fucking unbelievable...heck of an experience.

Everyone here talks about bad theater experiences, but I rarely...if ever...had a bad theater experience. I remember when I saw The Avengers, there was this one girl who kept having to go out and had to cross me and my sister and mother. I couldn't even get upset because I knew my mother was furious. I mean, I know what to expect in these places and I just roll with it. It's part of the experience when you're surrounded by people of different ages. If you really don't want to be disturbed and don't like people, then watch it at home.

I let my wife shush people now.

I've never really had to much of a problem other than the occasional phone light up.
Being deaf I don't hear to many people talking to interrupt my enjoyment of the movie.

Please let us know if the novel is any good and has any extra stuff! Novelizations usually have stuff from the original script. Well, they used to.

No real Scotsman Superman fan would pass up MOS! One thing that is sad is Jimbo kind of proves that critics opinions do affect the public. Even if they are grossly exaggerating what happens in the film. Jimbo, in Superman II, Superman fucks off and leaves everyone with the 3 villains, they all make mistakes, and that's before we've even gotten to the teleportation, cellophane S and memory kiss. They made mistakes, but it's still worth seeing and still an entertaining film.

I was already straddling the line. Critics just tipped me over to one side. If someone is really committed, reviews aren't going to matter one bit. But they do affect the fringe, absolutely.
The shifting themes of the trailers gave me some pause initially. It reminded me of the marketing for Green Lantern.
Plus it's not just critics vs. consumers. The movie is pretty divisive. I only know one guy not on the board who has seen it, and his review was "boooooorrriiiiiiiiiing." Star Trek '09 and Into Darkness are also very divisive, but I embrace its new direction. I may have clouded my opinion of MOS too much already, but I don't think I'll embrace it like Trek.
