Yeah.
I'd be more optimistic if the characters were all tough guys, but Superman is more of a low key personality, and Snyder doesn't pull off low key characters in a way that makes them interesting or pop on screen.
Night Owl, Superman, the cast of Sucker Punch, all came off rather bland to me.
I found Ving Rhames' tough guy in Dawn of the Dead more interesting than Superman.
So I have a tad more hope with Batman in the loop since tough guys seem to be Snyder's forte.

To me, Snyder seems to do far better with creating striking images onscreen that don't depend on actual dialogue spoken on-screen. His film montages with voiceovers (like the Dr. Manhattan sequence of Watchmen and much of 300) are his strong point.
I'd say that if the entirety of MOS was done with Lois' voiceover chronicling the story of Superman- that it would have smoothed over a LOT of clunky dramatic sequences. If Batman vs. Superman is all told with a Batman voiceover from his point of view, it could avoid some of the types of sequences that Snyder doesn't seem that strong in.

It's unfortunate that Nolan decided that he was going to have the "final word" on Batman and closed off his trilogy so definitively. In a world where Hugh Jackman can play Wolverine in 6 going on 7 films, Christian Bale can only play Batman in 3? Imagine the hype if it was Christian Bale returning as the Dark Knight to face off against/team up with this new Superman in the form of Henry Cavill. Suddenly you've got an Avengers-sized build up with 4 films (3 Batman and 1 Superman) leading up to this clash of titans. Nolan aside, I would've paid Bale whatever he wanted to reprise the role and adjusted the story accordingly to accommodate TDKR's ending. It would have been epic...
Instead we have just one lukewarmly received Superman movie as the foundation of the DC cinematic universe, immediately jumping into a team-up sequel with a brand new Batman played by the guy who's already been Daredevil.
That said, I like Affleck, I liked Daredevil, I loved Man of Steel and I'm going into this with a good attitude. At least we're getting a Batman/Superman movie before Justice League, as it should be. And Lex Luthor is my third favorite character in the DC universe after the world's finest so if he us indeed the villain as rumored I'll be a happy camper.

Some quotes from Goyer (sorry I don't have the link; I got it from another board):
“One of the things that has been fun for us," screenwriter David S. Goyer tells The Associated Press (via Comic Book Therapy), "is we’re a bit a further along than what I think people realize."
The Man of Steel sequel is already set to feature the return of Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne with Ben Affleck making his debut as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Although Affleck's casting last month set internet message boards on fire, Goyer notes that it's important to not be swayed by fan criticism.
"From a fan point of view, we’re conscious of that when you’re working on these things, but you can’t let yourself be paralyzed by that," he says. "At the end of the day, you still have to create something. And if you try and think, ‘Well what would the fans like?’ then you stop being creative. It’s sort of like, 'Where does it end?' You have to write the story that you want to write, and hope that people want to see it.”
So who does Goyer side with when and if it comes down to the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel going mano a mano?
“Most comic book purists would say Batman," he says, "because he is the ultimate strategist. Even though it makes no sense whatsoever. If Superman just flicked his finger, Batman would be done for.”

By a bit further along, I'm guessing we'll get more news soon? Casting? Costume shots? More black rubber?

Let's hope they take this opportunity to move away from the black rubber Batman costume that's been the norm for 25 years. Finding a way to translate the black and grey costume would be a great way to distinguish Affleck's Batman from what's come before and finally give us something different (and more faithful to the comics).

Yes, I'm so tired of the black rubber suits.. so tired of it. I really want to see a faithful representation of the Batman suit.. a little more cloth material, heck use the same stuff they used for Superman if they want. Black and Grey would be good but I'd love to see the grey and really dark blue/almost black similar to the Arkham games.
I can't wait to see some pictures of what it's gong to look like.

I wouldn't mind if they modified supermans suit too.
But I doubt it.

ABSOLUTELY.
Though I had major problems with Nolan's 3rd Batman entry- Bale was never a problem (the throaty voice choice not counting).
In fact, Nolan and Bale have been pretty quiet about MOS in general and their lack of participation for MOS 2.
One possibility is just trying to let Goyer/Snyder/Cavill have their day to be in the spotlight..... or, like Reeve's pulling out of Supergirl at the last minute.... it could be that neither Nolan nor Bale wanted to have their work married to MOS.
Either case is possible, but- for sure, MOS 2 wouild have been looked at as also being Batman 4 (or 8, if you count the Burton/Schumacher stuff).... would have pushed those Nolan-Batman fans who didn't check out MOS to get a ticket, too... HAD to have crossed WB's mind...

I'd have looked forward to Bale's Batman in a new caper, but a brand new take doesn't really excite me
Pity WB weren't so forward thinking. I still feel Affleck was quite an impulsive decision

Yeah WB should have worked it out with Nolan from the get go. Now they have to start all over. Again. Bale knows he did his bit any anything else would just be be for the check. I'm sure WB At least thought about offering him one with a lot of zeros on it.

What a pack of dumbasses.
They cooked their golden goose.
This would make much more money if Bale was Batman and Nolan was directing.
Instead, MOS was deemed mediocre and the same director is directing the sequel.
BOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I wonder if Cavill regrets doing MoS. Has it ruined his chances of being Bond?

He'd probably have been good as Bond.

I don't see it.
Too boyish.
Not much screen presence, doesn't have that "killer badass" screen presence of his predecessors.
Maybe James Bond Jr?

But the problem is that he swirls snowflakes even better...
Maybe they should've gotten him for The Hobbit?

I have a number of problems with Cavill as Bond:
1. Bond doesn't swirl snowflakes, he shakes Martinis
2. Bond is not "kind of hot"
3. Bond has no regrets about killing
4. Bond doesn't allow people he cares about to die senselessly.
5. Bond doesn't get on a bus...

Bond isn't exactly a hard one to play now days is it?
The modern version is a fraction of the charm of the originals, so when you take that out you've basically got scowling and standing around looking inquisitive

You just can't stand the fact that Daniel Craig made a huge splash and Cavill landed with a thud.
