First of all I dispute your notion that Reeve looked the best in SIII. Reeve looked to be on steroids and this is evident by his aggressive behavior as Superman throughout the movie even when he's normal Superman.
The wig was also unbearable with ugly brown streaks that looked grey against the blue suit. I think I actually prefer Reeve's look in SIV.. beer belly and roadkill wig and all.
Secondly, I agree that SIII could have been great.. going back to Smallville great idea. Seeing what happened to Brad and Lana awesome. Having Superman turn evil great. However non of these ideas ever played out fully... they were there but not developed.
The SIII script really needed Mankewitcz to write it for these good ideas to really breathe. Just look at the Newman's writing of Superman and Lois in Niagra in SII.. there just kind of "there" with no build up or development. In Mankewticz's re-write.. we have the DP Jump scene which fully fleshes out the notion of going to Niagra, etc. SII really needed this caliber of writing to properly execute everything promising about SIII.
Also yeah the slapstick Lester crap needed to go as well.

I'm sorry old timer.... more personal insults will only get you suspended again. Anyway my stance against the hair continuity in SII stands.

Wow. You really need to read my post again old timer.
Why would Clark's hair get dry and puffy when he becomes de-powered? Do his Super powers give his hair an everlasting supply of conditioning treatment? LOL

No he would have punched Lois and called her a name. Supes would never do that, even depowered. At worst, he would tell her to get into the car and drive herself home from the Fortress of Solitude. (oddly, we never saw the parking garage of the Fortress of Solitude.... nor roads back, for that matter...) You sure about that? Clark beat up Rocky when he HAD his powers. We could have gotten another scene of the Arctic Police with Clark getting arrested and taken to the station for domestic abuse.

She would deserve it for waiting & telling him AFTER he gave up his powers. She kind of does suggest that she doesnt want to be with mortal Clark when she says "I want the man I fell in love with." Seriously would domestic abuse have been justified in this situation?

So I think the lack of trucks looks terrible too much blue with nothing to break up the red. However the trunks do look ridiculous so what is the best solution here? In the comics my idea is to always have Superman's super-long cape flowing in the wind around his body so in each and every picture part of the cape always covers the groin area so we never see trunks and we get some red breaking up the blue space.
How could a solution like this work in the movies though? Are we resigned to having a trunkless Superman?

They should basically compensate for Superman being all powerful by making him mentally slower in comparison to the other justice leaguers.
Now before you claim blasphemy get this: Superman should be just as smart as he's always been in the previous movies. However, they should make the other Justice Leaguers a little bit extra and above intelligent than they have been portrayed in the past. They should always be just a ahead of Superman with Superman being right behind them in his understanding and comprehension of every situation.
I think this will provide proper balance with Superman against the rest of the JLA.

If right after he gave up his powers for Lois, Lois told him that she wanted to "just be friends?"

The biggest sin was Thau simply gave up looking for Donner's completed blank bullets scene and opted to just use the screen-test instead. He would have tried looking harder but no one asked him nicely.

What was Mr Thau's budget for the RDC in 2006? $2,467.81 USD

So how come Thau didn't put in the first part of the scene?
I guess it would make sense that Donner shot it... it is kinda weird that Ursa says "I told you this was a puny planet." When we never heard her tell Zod it was puny in the first place.

Maybe Selutron gave us a fake joke ending and he's saving the real one until WB is ready to put a $100 million restoration effort behind SII???

In all seriousness yes.. the 'Non plays with his own balls scene' was probably Donner. Just because Donner was going to have the villains be serious 95% of the time didn't mean he wouldn't have ANY room for levity.

The worst thing Lester did was to ruin the villains in S2. It's like the way Freddy Krueger was ruined between the first Elm Street film and the later parts. I think Ursa was ruined the least. Zod became a parody. And Non went from being a cold, scary looking monster in STM to a comical buffoon in S2 who made squeaking and grunting noises like a baby. Ursa seemed to be the most consistent. That reminds me, who filmed the scene with Non playing with the metal balls in the white house? I will be disappointed if it was Donner. And yes , WTF was up with the red stripes on Zod's costume? Were they in STM too? Yeah it was like Lester thought Zod and Ursa were lovers and Non was their retarded child. Actually Ursa was changed THE MOST... her whole character she went from an asexual man hating bitch to a woman who only wished to please her General. Also do you really need to ask whether it was Testicle-Lesticle who shot Non playing with his steel balls?

At the end of Selutron's ending Superman says "never set one of them above the rest.. love all humanity instead"
Jor-El smiles.
Then Superman says "That's not fair." Cuts to Superman re-destroying the world whilst repeating "That's not fair, that's not fair."
END

Yeah I hated Zod's look and behavior in the Lester scenes... the gray slicked hair feathered in the back the shiny red vinyl on the costume... calling Ursa "my dear" Examining the piece of pie (foreshadowing the 3 stooges slapstick that it to come in the Metro battle) I was even embarrassed for Zod when he calls Earth Houston on live TV. UGHHHH
Awesome about Zod wearing green face paint in Donner scenes... he did look sickly and scary especially when being sentenced by Brando.
I also preferred the british voice by Donner than the Lester dubbed deep voice... again more scary and villainous.
