Yeah the Metro Battle looked cheap as heck... every shot looked like a set... the roller skating man even spells it out.
In the Donner shots in the Daily Planet.. you can see a glorious red sky (Donner's battle would have left the city on FIRE and in ruins).
What could have been.....

I also love how sickly Zod looks in the Donner scenes. Dark circles under eyes and pale skin.. really scary looking. In the Lester scenes Zod basically turned into a parody of himself.

What is wrong with Superman just having a regular average sized codpiece that doesn't call attention to itself one way or another?
Why did Alexander Salkind insist it had to be an all or nothing affair?

So it has been said that in the Donner cut the green crystal prop (in the insert shot were Thau's hand picks it up) was a prop from SR.
I know in SR they had a whole bunch of crystals but there was never a green one... so I'm confused here.
Can anyone explain this?

Yup the speedo and spit curl are iconic and Donner/Reeve just own it and make it believable.
I'm also glad they never changed the Super suit in any of the 4 movies... why would Superman get a new suit??? Apparently he did in SR and the Cavil's suit in BvS is different although I doubt we'll get an explanation

Luthor was never bald... he simply wore a bald cap in prison in an effort to look less fetching so that he wouldn't become somebody's bitch.

Zod's hair was terribly inconsistent too.. in Donner scenes it's combed back and cut short in the back... in Lester scenes it's slicked back with grey streaks and is feathered in the back.

The pacing in the Smallville parts is so well done. The film cuts immediately from clark being found as a baby to him as an 18 year old but it somehow doesnt feel abrupt. It feels like we have known the Jeff East character for years. And Glenn Ford just had a few minutes of screen time, yet we feel like we also knew him for years. The movie jumps from him finding Clark to his death scene. Amazingly, it doesnt feel like a ridiculous jump. It feels like we have known him for years too. That kind of history is very hard to convey in such a short time. Even more impressive that they didnt need flashbacks to establish it. Just good acting and editing. The location shooting, the music, and the way it was shot really makes that version of Smallville feel like a whole world unto itself. By contrast, apparently the SII bit where Superman flies to the Amazon jungle to grab that flower feels like a backlot or shot in some amusement park- even though reportedly they actually sent Reeve and a second unit crew at an exotic location to grab that shot. Some directors make things look epic, others--- not so much. ;p On another note- I saw on Jim Bower's Caped Wonder site still photos from the farm that might have been used to show the passage of time- a la- Donner/Baird's work on the "Omen". Who knows if this was put in/out, but it's hard to imagine a photo montage from the car lift to transitioning to the football game. I know they went all the way to St. Lucia for that shot of Supes grabbing the flower but because Lester apparently doesn't like to actually have the camera MOVE the shot ends up looking like a cheap backlot garden shot! Shoulda better spent the money actually paying Brando!

Hmmm... Mank's depiction of Joker is pretty cool.. but he keeps telling random jokes. I liked Ledger's Joker who really didn't tell jokes at all. Also I didn't like how Bruce ate at McDonalds.... no way he could maintain his Batman physique and health if he ate fast food!
I do wanna finally see Silver St. Cloud on the screen though... hotness!

No Clark's hair could be different in the ending sequence... we established Superman's hair as being completely inconsistent in SII anyway for it to matter.
Sometimes Clarks hair is wet and slicked down (DP Jump scene) sometimes it's dry and puffy (diner scenes) and as Superman sometimes's it's jet black real hair with a thick spit curl (Donner scenes) and sometimes it's a brown wig with a wispy spit curl that constantly flutters in the wind (Lester scenes).
Don't even get me started on Lois's hair between Donner Lois stunning model-esque brunette hair and Lester's brown rat-wig.
The point is that anyone looking for follicular consistency in SII is already sorely disappointed.

It's not a must have for the story but it adds to the entertainment value. Hackman and Beatty had great comic chemistry. THIS 1000% Of course Hackman and Perrine had 0% comedic chemistry which was a shame.

Did anyone else first see the S on Superman's chest and not even realize it was supposed to be an S?
I thought it was just a cool random design of red and yellow.

Anyone who says that Bosworth (who was a bloodyteenager at the time SR was filmed) was a good Lois is dead wrong in my opinion. No way a teenager should have a 5 year old son out of wedlock.. it's just plain wrong.
But you're right about Routh sorta being like Reeve... there are times where he is almost there but not quite and other times when he is off completely.. it's a weird experience watching SR that's for sure. Too bad Routh essentially had to pay the price for Singer's, Doherty's, and Harris's incompetence. The failure of SR was not Routh's fault at all and I feel bad for him.

Seriously where did Clark get off telling Rocky that he was siting in "his seat"? Clark never sat in that seat ever.... he zip-lined right to the bathroom if I remember correctly, he never bothered to take a seat in the first place. Rocky was right to tell him that his seat was indeed the bathroom. And it was Clark that threatened violence first not Rocky. I'm glad Rocky tore Clark a new one and Clark's true cowardice was on display when he beat up Rocky in an unfair fight with his powers.

Your idea would not only be a tribute to Christopher Reeve. It would also right the wrong that was done to Brandon Routh. He really got screwed over when SR didn't get a sequel. Who should direct? Singer again? It would also be a good way to continue the Jason storyline from SR. Instead of a random "Jeremy" child, you could have Superman's own child be the one who persuades him to get rid of nuclear war. GREAT idea! No it shouldn't be Jason... the beauty that is Superman IV is that an anonymous autistic boy named Jeremy who Superman had never before seen in flesh sent him a simple request to change the world. If it had been Superman's own son it would have reeked of "Daaaaaaaddd...... can you please just get all those missiles!! You pwomised!!!!!

I'd bet that had Reeve not had his accident we would definitely have had a Superman V in the mid late 90's starring Reeve. The whole Superman Lives development heck would never have happened and instead WB would have commissioned Reeve to do Superman V. Man...talk about dreaming of things that never were and asking why not....

In a way I think that it would be the ultimate tribute to Christopher Reeve is Superman 4 was remade with a huge budget.
Brandon Routh could be Superman and we could see the story as it was originally supposed to be.
The production of Superman 4 was the ultimate betrayal of Christopher Reeve... the move effectively permanently killed what was left of his career and the producers Golan and Globus LIED to him by saying they would do right by Superman.
Instead they forced Reeve to be Superman in a movie budgeted for $11.95 (they didn't even have enough money to pay for Kraft Services food.. poor Mark Pillow had to brown bag his cabbage-water lunch).
I'm serious re-do Superman 4.. with all the problems in the world Superman tackling the world's problem is an appealing idea plus the Nuclear Man Supes fight would be awesome to see done properly.

Here's what I don't get: why does Superman need Jor El to turn back time for him wen he did it in STM? So the lesson is Superman himself shouldn't turn back time but it's okay if Jor El does it?
Also if Jor El was still around why didn't he restore clarks powers instead of a "mysterious light'?

I know! I would NEVER in a million years have showed Mr. Mankewitcz those half-a$$ed stick drawings that looked like they were scribbled by a dog with cerebral palsy! I have nothing but admiration and respect for Mr. Selutron but I seriousl want him to come on this board for a little Q and A and ball bustin.
I mean seriously his ending HAD to have been a funny joke right RIGHT!?!?!?
Oh and btw, there will NEVER NEVER NEVER be an official recut of Superman II.
The footage is out and now the film belongs to the ages in whatever permutation fans want to make it.... EXCEPT for Selutron's ending which is terrible! No offense Mr. Selutron.

This post absolutely means something. We had been waiting for Selutron's ending for nearly 10 years and I for one was in abject shock wen I saw it!!!!
Not only because the idea was.... was..... I can't even say! But because 2/3rds of this ending was comprised of 4 year old stick drawings that Selutron claimed could easily be created using unused takes.
I am extremely skeptical of the material being there and IF it were there it would be better used to make an ending NOT another Superman/Jo-El turns world back!!!
I just thought that since Selutron did make some great material with existing shots (almost all of which I used for my cut of SII after I realized I could rip clips off youtube) we could see what else could be harvested for Selutron's ending.
