Cain didn't look anything like Superman. Wrong face, wrong nose, wrong hair. Too short, and high pitched voice. Routh has a deeper voice.
The reason he may appear "bigger" was because he was much shorter than Routh. have you seen Rouths behind the scenes workouts? He was more than big enough. The padding was to make up for the compression of the suits material.
Cain dealt with soap opera style writing while Routh had more complex realistic writing. No fairy tale soap happy ending in SR but a more believable one.

Routh had a thankless task for where people like Hurst are concerned; I feel sorry for the poor guy after the legitimate heart he put into the role.
I'm disapointed with SR, but I'd watch the follow-up to see Routh alone.
How can you critique someone's performance you've never seen? I can't comment on your opinions Hurst, because they're not valid until you watch the film
So you start an "Anti-Routh" thread without before you've actually seen him in anything? Says it all.

I thought Routh did a great job overall, i really do. You played it as good as anyone could have. No-one will recreate the magic christopher reeve had as superman but he got as close as possible i reckon.
Incidentally, Dean Cain was very well built whether people like it or not, i think he was 6'0, either way im a little over 6'0 and im not short. He was a pretty solid guy.
If anyone was mis-cast in SR it was Bosworth, she was god awful.
"its deadly.......to him"
"personally i think thats a load of crap"
Personally i thought she fucking stunk!!

Routh did very well, I`d be very disappointed if he didn`t get the chance to do another one. Like Brimstone said, for me the only problems were none of his doing. I think the biggest problem was he didn`t have a very strong actress playing Lois. I understand what Metallo said about her getting too much stick, it just gets to me that I think Lois could`ve owned (with a couple of tweaks in the script, also) that movie, yet I was left feeling a bit miffed by her performance. And Hursty, You don`t fool me, I know you`ve seen SR at least 7 times.

Why don't you just say it Russ. 'scum' like Hurst. Evil people that don't give a poor impostor a chance. Is this the reason that you don't really talk to me anymore. It's like this, you hated the idea of the movie anyway, then you grab a gander at the child taking off your hero and you cringe, then you see the trailer, see him trying to put on a deep voice, see him daring to emulate someone who can't be emulated...you don't want to pay your good money to see the film, but you can have an opinion on his very presence in the role Got it? Good.

Brandon Routh respected Chris Reeve as much as anybody here, Hurst. Nobody can deny that. But you've seen some trailers and you think he's trying to tarnish the memory of your childhood hero first?
Watch the movie THEN vent, but you've really got very little to base you hatred on right now.

Bales suit could be considered "rubbish" and that didn't stop you from liking him.

last time I checked Batman isn't decked out in a rubber gimpsuit. Rouths suit is closer to the traditional Superman than Bales is to the traditional Batman. And Routh is an actor too.

LOL to all that.
'gimp suit' indeed.
Are you insulting Bale who you like just to prove a point?

I'm not insulting him...but show me in the comics where batman regularly wears a rubber gimpsuit? He doesn't. Definitely not a suit with bits glued onto it.
If someone is going to bash on Rouths suit for being crap then Bales suit deserves twice as much criticism.
How is it an insult to Bale when he didn't design the suit? Same thing for Routh. Not the fault of either of them.
I don't remember the X-Men lounging at any gay biker bars with Daredevil either but Rouths suit is more "faithful" than those too and they don't get nearly as much flak.

(off topic)
In quick defense of Daredevil, I think the DD suit in that movie is one of the BEST examples of a cool/functional superhero suit ever put in a movie. I wish the Batsuit was a bit more like it.
(ducks for cover)
You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguments.

Rouths suit is crap because Routh is in it.

Hursty...
Watch the movie, and then your opinion may mean something. You won't even have to pay for it. It's free on cable now. It's on all the time.
Then, by all means, hate on it all you want.

As we've all said Hurst get back to me when you actually watch the movie. You have no idea. Who don't you vent on Welling this much? The guy is far more of an embarrassment to Superman than Routh.
BTW, I like Afflecks DD suit, Val...but its still not the "classic" ideals that Hursty looks for. Like you said though its functional...and spandex would have looked lame, whereas the leather looks urban..which FITS the character and film.
BUT if you got the movie versions of Blade, The X-men, Daredevil, Punisher and Ghost Rider together it WOULD look like a tryout for the San Francisco chapter of the Village People.

Hursty, realistically, do you think you could possibly enjoy any aspect of SR or is it already pure crap to you? Would it be truly pointless?

Is this the reason that you don't really talk to me anymore. Pretty much. How can you have a convo with someone so set in their opinions - which aren't based on anything anyway? and let's be honest, all you want to do on these board is argue and bait people. Your response to Maverick's welcome says it all. Read what everyone who saw the film is saying. It's not unreasonable to assume that for all these Reeve fans, Routh must have done something right to impress everyone.

Well, this is the first time you've had the balls to face the issue. I think its you that needs to have a look at yourself if you're going to turn on someone because of ONE opinion he has. You've met me on countless occaisons, I even had you at my birthday party once, and you KNOW that I'm an alright bloke and I just adopt a board persona. So I think for you to turn on me over this shows you up. I know you don't care, but I do.
.
I like heavy debate and I dont like rules being thrust upon me, I always react to that on any board I am at. You only need to see my posts on TDK to know what I am about, and one more thing, fireworks and drama maketh the board, I strongly beleive that.
My only response to that is there are aren't many purists left in the world, scoff all you like, its true.

Would you consider me a purist, Hurst? I've been accused of being one and I liked Routh.

Well, if you appreciated the lazy computer based film-making then I have to say no.
