Of all the issues I had with Superman Returns...I don't think any had to do with Routh.

I read you. And I guess you can see where I'm coming from in not wanting the new film?? I can and I can't. I had written a lengthy reply giving examples and my feelings regarding certain remakes and sequels. But I scrapped it for this lengthy reply. I decided to focus more on a couple. Robocop. I don't think I could be a bigger fan of this film. I've seen it more than sixty times. I wasn't happy with Weller being replaced in 3 and I wasn't happy with 3 full stop. But the new one. Weller is most likely NOT going to be in it (although he could and should). If it's a remake I don't want it but I WILL see it and give it a chance. If it 's a sequel then I'm all up for it. With SR you have to accept someone else in the role. The embodyment and spirit of the character as I know it comes from Reeve's delivery. Whenever I see Reeve in another film I still see a little or a lot of Superman in there. A film you may have seen, Village of the Damned. Not one of Carpenter's absolute best but pretty decent and a remake to boot (to go alongside The Thing). For me it's Reeve's performance that holds this film together. It's honest, strong and heartfelt. I can see more than a little of Superman's character in this film and it seems that Superman is a part of Reeve. Or maybe Reeve is a part of Superman?. Routh's Superman is as near as dammit to what Reeve embodied and like in Village of the Damned where Reeve holds it together, Routh does a similar thing for SR. I'm not saying that routh is as good an actor as Reeve but he's left with a similar job and does so admirably. Performing the act of personificating a character I associate ONLY with Reeve. I CAN understand your trepidation to a degree but your trepidation seems aimed at Routh rather than the film when in actual fact and in hindsight having seen the film, it should be aimed at the film and not Routh as it's almost like he's been left in the lift after Singer's farted and left leaving everyone looking at him for answers. Although I'm not saying that SR is that bad I'm just trying to explain what Routh is doing and that you shouldn't be ignoring the film based on him because I honestly believe he deserves a lot of respect for what he attempted to take on and achieved. For what it's worth I was excited to see SR BECAUSE of my memories of Reeve. Now if he had been shite I'd have drop kicked the sonofabitch out of the window but I at least had to see for myself. Thankfully my decision was rewarded because, despite Reeve passing, I got to see a little of him on the screen. Give it a chance you may end up feeling similarly. Kind of like that saying. It's better to have loved and lost? You always have that anvil or chisel thing to fall back on.

Luke...meet me in the comic forum and I'll recommend you a few specific Superman comics that you almost certainly WILL enjoy.
Most Superman comics are crap, but when you have someone (like me) to slog through it all, you can pick your poison a bit better.

Hey guys! It's been a very long time since I've wrote on the board. First, I thought SR was a very good film...it could have more action, but still.... I also would like to know where it says that Routh had padding in his suit! Is this official? I thought it was all muscle!

The suit IS padded, but more for definition than anything else. Routh's physique was excellent, though. There are shots of him at the gym training for the role which prove that.
