I told you It's nice to finally get some GOOD news for a change... More respect for the Berlianti after doing this.... though Routh should be the tv Superman for good, rather than Tyler... I'm glad that Routh is cool doing it. Amazing. What could be next? A widescreen blu ray extended SII cut???

Well Berlantis been giving a few defunct DC projects second life. First there was bringing Matt Ryan back as Constantine. Then Shipp as Barry Allen. Now Routh as Superman.
There are a lot of rumors going around that sound kinda bs but the Legends cast is being interviewed a lot for ComiCon and naturally the first thing they get asked about is Superman. Routh said he’s definitely going to get back in the gym more and get in better shape so there’s that. It’s Hoechlin and Routh so they might meet on screen. The producers of Legends said there are more surprises to come
It’s just funny how things work out. Routh got shafted for a new take with Cavill. As soon as Cavill is out Routh is back in (in a sense). People were expecting a new Superman but I doubt most thought it would be a previous one.

That is great.
I was underwhelmed by SR, but thought Routh was fine.
I met him last year, and he was wonderful to talk to. He deserved better

Here’s a thought..... (Probably too optimistic but...)
Cavill is out. The DCEU is kind of messed up. Legends tv future is iffy...
What if WB is looking at the numbers amd attention for Routh back as Superman?
If so- could Routh return to the big screen as Supes?

But I would not want him to take over from Cavill. I hate the Snyder version of Superman.

The only reason Snyder’s Superman is still around is because we’re stuck with the DCEU. If the entire DCEU flopped WB wouldn’t hesitate to reboot. If we do see Superman again as a solo feature I think it’ll be a soft reboot at the very least. Like Batman Forever was even though it was in the Burton continuity. If this Joker movie works and if Pattinson’s Batman is a hard reboot I could see more and more stuff outside of the DCEU. Here’s a thought..... (Probably too optimistic but...) Cavill is out. The DCEU is kind of messed up. Legends tv future is iffy... What if WB is looking at the numbers amd attention for Routh back as Superman? If so- could Routh return to the big screen as Supes? I doubt we will see Superman in his own big screen adventure as the lead for a while but stranger things have happened. If we see a Superman movie again I think it’ll be a hard or soft reboot. If they keep putting Superman in existing franchises like Wonder Woman Aquaman or Shazam it’ll be some version connected to Snyder’s. If I had my way I’d be using this Crisis to reboot everything. Movies and tv. Maybe use Routh as Superman then next to Gadot, Momoa, Levi, Pattinson, a new Flash etc. Keep movies and tv separate but say several universes have been altered. That’s what Fox did unofficially with DOFP even if the characters and movies weren’t involved. I always saw that movie as an excuse to reset Tranks FF and the new Deadpool. That ain’t gonna happen here though. Side note: a twisted side of me wants the two Jimmys ti also meet Which ones? Sam Huntington and Mehcad Brooks? Would be a pretty funny reaction but it looks like Brooks is leaving the show.

Yes- huntington and Mechad.... but would be great to also get McClure and the L&C Jimmys too... perhaps they could have all the Jimmys meet and save the universe.in Legends. Would be hilarious and i think all the actors would be up for it.

Yeah. Would have been great. Even better if Larson was still alive. I was thinking how cool it would be to get all the Lexs together for a scene..well...except for that ONE guy who I don’t think will be invited. But Rosenbaum and Cryer and even Shea face to face would be awesome. Even IF they don’t get the actors they should do the doctor who idea and use clips from previous shows and movies to show us the scope of the multiverse. That shot where they got all the previous doctors together for Doctor Who’s anniversary was epic.

Looks like Routh just teased wearing this in the crossover. 😲 Time to speculate like crazy. What I think is going on is Routh is playing the Superman Returns Superman over ten years later but he’s going to have elements of the Kingdom Come Superman and Earth 2 Superman since he’s going to be playing a little older next to Tyler Hoechlin’s younger Superman just like in the comic book. They’ve cherry picked like that before like when they showed an older green arrow from 30 years in the future but he looked a lot like the dark knight returns Oliver Queen.

They always seem to be casting Routh to play Superman when he’s too young. A Kingdom Come Superman would be better suited for Gerard Christopher. I know everyone at the Smallville ComicCon who talked to Routh will be pleased, since everyone kept asking him when he’s gonna get another shot at playing Superman. I hope they can give him a decent costume this time around. All they need to do is a Reeve suit with the Kingdom Come symbol.

I think he looks perfect now to be the mainstream cinema Superman.
Looks same age as Reeve in S3

Which is pretty funny since he’s now almost a good ten years OLDER than Reeve was when he filmed Superman III. I agree though. He really has better aged into the role in terms of looks. When he wore a suit and glasses on Legends he looked even more like Clark Kent than he did in SR. I always thought the difference was that Reeve looked more mature when he was first cast and even though Routh was around the same age when he was first cast he looked more boyish.

Seeing him in person, you can tell Routh has nowhere near the poise and demeanor Reeve brought to the role. Mostly it’s due to their upbringing and training.

Routh had an upbringing closer to Clark Kent’s actually. Midwesterner, tight knit family, etc. He even grew up 100 miles from where George Reeves was born. That’s why he’s so mild mannered. He didn’t have Reeve’s classical training but that’s assuming Superman needs to be a classical guy with refinement and not a humble decent farm boy at heart. Bruce Wayne needs poise. Superman needs character and nobility...and I don’t mean the kind that comes from a wealthy upbringing. What made Reeve so right was his talent and his earnestness. What Routh didn’t have is Reeve’s experience or natural aptitude. Technique can be taught. Natural ability or the “it” factor can’t.
There nothing wrong with him being different from Reeve in terms of those things as long as he’s not trying to be LIKE Reeve. That was their mistake which wasn’t his call. He should have leaned more into his strengths and the things he had in common with the character more than Reeve did. He was also hamstrung by the script which again...wasn’t his call. Let Routh do more of his own thing. Lots of guys and girls aren’t like their predecessor but they did just fine when they got to do it their way and with the best support.

I also saw him in person, nice guy, but at the time, I hadn't seen the video talking about how he felt about SR, so I felt like I was treading lightly about what to say. I was dumb in not paying for an autograph but a family pic instead...

I never got the impression that Reeve's Clark Kent was a "farmboy".
He was shy and klutzy, but didn't he say he borrowed that from Cary Grant?

Reeve didn’t get to show off that “farmboy” side of Clark Kent because his character spent a lot of time in the Fortress of Solitude that brought out his Kryptonian heritage. By the third film, he considered himself a “Metropolis sophisticate” and that still came through when he was in Smallville. We got a bit of that Smallville sense in the fourth in the way he was dressed and acted.
I’m from Kansas and Routh doesn’t quite remind me of the “farm boys” I knew. At the convention, he was always fiddling with his long hair getting in his face. My girlfriend was annoyed by this and was suggesting he’d wear a headband or tie to back so that he’s not always brushing it out of his face. It was also the way he always seemed lost in thought and a bit scatter-brained when he was asked questions that helped me see through to why he didn’t have a great presence playing the role. He had Reeve’s look down, but that was just the half of it. It also didn’t work to cover his brown eyes with those godawful contact lenses.

He had Reeve’s look down, but that was just the half of it. It also didn’t work to cover his brown eyes with those godawful contact lenses. I've met a few (not all that many I admit) creators and actors at comic conventions- and have had different experiences in interacting with them. One of the best easily that comes to mind is Neal Adams--- the man looks you in the eye, has a firm handshake, and genuinely seems happy to interact with you & treats every fan is if they're a long lost friend... On the other hand, I remember as a young man having a really unpleasant experience with George Perez - but with age I give the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was having a bad day, who knows? When I met Brandon Routh with my family, he was great to my sister and my young nephew and was pleasant for the few moments where we took his picture, but not really a firm handshake (which is kind of disappointing coming from someone playing someone who can lift mountains) but we also met him late in the day when the crowds were dying down and I was hoping that when I mentioned how much we enjoyed Superman Returns, that he would be like Neal Adams and add an antedote or share a story.... but, no story. Just a smile.... and an awkward moment to kind of move along. it doesn't come natural for everyone of course - but I was highly spoiled by my Neal Adams experience.... and how reasonable is it to expect everyone to be an extrovert like Neal? At the same time, I remember seeing that REALLY awkward video someone had posted of HOVERING with a videocamera over Brandon Routh at an airport. You could clearly see that Routh was trying to be polite, and the video person didn't say anything and Routh tried to be fine with it, even though I myself felt pain and discomfort watching this videostalker just taping him at close range with no real borders in line.... so, I imagine it's not the first time that Routh has been approached in a pretty awkward way and might be guarded towards that. On the panel that Routh and Dean Cain hosted, Dean seemed much more comfortable as a storyteller and engaging with the fans- but I don't think anything negative of Routh, I just realize that he's probably somewhat guarded (understandable and kind of smart) and maybe a bit more private or understated... but he seems sincere and haven't heard anything negative. In my mind, just not everyone can be comfortable or confident working a room. He might not be Neal Adams, but that's okay imo. As long as he's not a jerk to anyone...
